Hakodate is a cute city with an easy-to-use public transportation system. The main areas of interest have their own separate charm. Don't miss the red brick warehouses or the morning market for a sharp contrast of Western and Japanese cultures. The onsens make a perfect end to a day of travel. Cheap accommodation is limited so book your spaces early (I recommend Share Hotel Hakoba). Bring walking shoes and and an empty stomach; there is lots to see and eat there
Small town feeling with lots of natural charm. Not too many people and plenty of space to walk around. The town has an interesting history and some beautiful scenery. Getting around is relatively easy, with most spots easily and conveniently accessible via the tram and/or on foot. Favourite spots included Motomachi, Goryokaku fort (and the adjacent tower from which the fort can be viewed from above), the morning seafood market and of course the spectacular night view from the top of Mt. Hakodate. Recommended eating spots in the market include Uni Murakami Honten for the best fresh uni (sea urchin), Ikura-tei for great seafood donburi and Ni-ban kan seafood restaurant, where we ate the delicious local Hanasakigani crab. Outside the market, we enjoyed Mei Mei Tei for jingis kan (lamb BBQ) and soup curry with lamb cutlets, and (of course) the famous local hamburger chain Lucky Pierrot (bay branch), as well as the Flower Picnic Cafe in Motomachi for the most insta-worthy interior and delicious cupcakes. While the old British Consulate is a charming building, I am afraid they really don't know how to do scones properly (for scones, the gold standard in Japan is definitely British Hills in Fukushima); we would avoid that next time.
Hakodate is a nice city to visit and there are more interesting lace and attractions to see but unfortunately I have only one day for sightseeing. I went to Hakodate Morning market. then catch a cable to Mount Hakodate to see the city views. It's beautiful scenery on the top view. from Mt. Hakodate. I will com back to explore more places if I have a chance to visit Hakodate again. Thanks.
The market in the morning is a bit disppointing, it is more like a place designed for the visitors. It is a lovely and beautiful town. All the tourist attractions are closely packed and are all quite lovely.
Lovely mid sized Japanese city surrounded by water and mountains Less frantic than some other Japanese cities Easy to get around most tourist spots with cool, funky street car. Has a SFO and SEA feel to it especially near Mt. Hakodate with historic hilly neighborhood. Nice restaurants and shopping along wharf with restored wareehouses Overall very pleasant city.
Lots of things to do within walking distance of the station. The Red Brick area is amazing and a lot of fun. The ropeway at night was packed but very beautiful. Most of all, there is outstanding seafood everywhere. The morning market had amazing uni.
Location is super convenient: JR Hakodate station is a good place to reach by any transport. Also it’s easy to explore the city by foot, from this hotel. The morning fish market is just in front of the hotel. Onsen is nice and comfortable with Dyson fan to try in powder room. Also lobby on the 12th floor is convenient and with amazing view. Single rooms windows are looked at JR station and trains, however soundproofing is OK - and nothing disturb you from your business
The breakfast was delicious and the hotel staff managed the flow of guests well. There is a welcoming lounge on the ground floor where guest can enjoy tea, coffee, soft drinks, yuzu cha, hot soup as well as white or red wine. The onsen was enjoyable and there is a small outdoor bath. The room was well designed and had a shower room. The hotel provides towels for the hot springs and also a comfortable pajama ensemble.
You can see this hotel the moment walking outside Hakodate train station or the bus station. You can not beat the location! An ordinary American style hotel with Japan cleanness. Nothing to complain about. Please do not skip the breakfast buffet in this hotel. Amazing breakfast with Japanese and American meal selections. We purchased the breakfast in the hotel, and we got buy one get one free, even better deal!
Hakodate
This very new hostel a bicycle so you can explore around the beautiful city. Their beds is similar to capsule hotel’s which secure small private space. The location is not only near Hakodate station and the tram stop, but also near the downtown area. Free coffee, green tea, seasonings, condiments, body soap, shampoo and detergent are prepared. Everything is on great level.
The front staff was welcoming and the room was very nice. The hotel is close to the JR Hakodate Station and the famous morning market. It's a 10-15 min walk to the bay area where you can find the Kanamori Red Brick Warehouses, shops and restaurants. If you don't feel like walking, there's a tramstation nearby.
Delicious breakfast, far beyond our expectation. Only 10 min walk from Hakodate station. The room was very clean and spacious, and the onsen was good for a small hotel in the city. We would come back here for sure!
Hakodate
This is a wonderful small hotel (actually a renovated Ryokan) in the Yunogawa onsen area of Hakodate. It is on a quiet back street right beside the river and only a 10 minute walk from the tram stop.
Not like a modern style hotel. This hotel has been renovated from Fuji bank, Hakodate branch. That gave us the great experiences. Also close to the pier and tourist attraction by walking distance.
The hotel is very close to JR Hakodate station. Walking distance to the early fish market and lots of local restaurants. They are serving traditional Japanese breakfast which is not bad.
The breakfast was Japanese cuisine and paid separate from the room. Outstanding, Room was spacious and well furnished. Parking provided behind the hotel.
Great location. The hotel was very near the station and bus stop. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. And they have free coffee.
The TV is very huge. Comfort bed, clean bathroom, as expected. Location is only 5 min walk to Hakodate station. There is also a 7-11 near the hotel.
Room are very clean and price are good too. The hotel locate near tram station that so awesome. Hotel staff are very friendly.
I like this hotel because it has a hot spring bath.
The views are spectacular with coffee grinders inside the room, you can really enjoy your time both inside and outside. The onsen is nice with free popsicles available to enjoy the nice view of Mt Hakodate.
Friendly staff, clean hotel. Room was a decent size. Bed was good.
