We stayed for just one night to have the amazing view and cheaper hostel prices. One night in yamanakako, one night in kawaguchico, is perfect. This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.
This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around. Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun! I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish. Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting! I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.Guest review byEmma - 10.0
It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.
It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there. There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto).
