Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa are a must see, must do. World class! The mountains are beautiful. If you have transport, close by is Ashburton, Lake Coleridge and much more. The information centre in Methven, "I-Hub" is a wealth of information and things to do. Off the beaten track, an alive, looked after, vibrant small town NZ with genuine charm and a smile. Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few...
Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few days skiing in the winter, be prepared for closed days. I would go for self catering as the standard of service and quality of food is much the same as what you could do at home. If you are prepared to pay top dollar there may be somewhere that is high standard, I never found it. On closed days you can walk the Fairy Trial by the racecourse, go to the hot pools try not to eat there unless you are prepared to wait 40 minutes to an hour for your food, beverages may not be up to standard. There are also other tracks in the bush not far from Methven that you can do a 30 to 3 hour walk. Safe, friendly, small and cozy town, a stone's throw from one of the best ski fields in NZ. I would highly recommend this accommodation to everyone staying in Methven. . Excellent value for money . Roaring fire . Extremely clean in all areas . Beds were made up beautifuly and so comfortable . A quick strol to the pubs and restaurant and shops. . Mountain views . Hot pools were brilliant loved the adults only section. The Brown and Blue pubs were good and lively. The hotel is situated in the centre on Methven just a short walk from the local pubs, restaurants and hot pools. Room was large enough for a family of 4 with daily room service, tea, coffee facilities and toiletries. The complimentary breakfast was a nice surprise. The centre are with kids area, pool table and fireplace was lovely to replay and the kids could meet friends. The food served in the bar was excellent. Beautiful rimu lined common areas and a roaring fire in the lounge. Breakfast provided which really speeds up getting ready in the morning to head up the mountain. Much appreciated.
