Hotel Casino Chaves, Casas Novas Countryside Hotel Spa & Events, and Hotel Premium Chaves - Aquae Flaviae got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Chaves.
We really, really liked Chaves. We stayed in the Castelo Hotel which is superb, excellent room - with tea and coffee making facilities! We felt we got a lot of hotel for our money. Very clean and comfortable with excellent staff, helpful and friendly. The castle (museum admission price €1, well worth it just for the views from the top) and its immediate neighbourhood is close by and pleasant to stroll around. An easy walk down to the river brings you to the Roman bridge, a perfect place to sit in the sun and lose an afternoon over a beer or two. Our first evening meal we had at Taska das Caldas and wished we’d spent our second evening there, too. It’s “characterful”, an “experience” but in a good way! Very friendly host greeted us with a white port, then, because we couldn’t decide on starters, brought lots of lovely taster sized portions. The mains were excellent. No room for dessert we just finished with coffee and were bombarded with shots of various águardentes. Didn’t half sleep well! The only disappointment was wanting to walk round the park only to find it closed for works.
The city is amazing. It has grown so much since I last been there some 30 years ago. The thermae museum is for free and it's very informative, restaurants are abundant and serve great food. Bars ensure some nightlife and the river has many options of entertainment. The kid's park on the main square near the Tamega is of superb quality
Chaves is a very interesting and picturesque town. It has lots of nice, reasonably priced restaurants and bars. We found a nice restaurant just down the stone steps from the Roman bridge. The "house red" was excellent.
Its a small town so everything is within easy walking distance. There were nice restaurants and bakers. The streets in the old part are very narrow with overhanging balconies in different colours. There is a spa taking its water from the hot spring with a range of different treatments. 2 days was long enough though. Unless you want to do day trips with the car to other nearby attractions.
Chaves is an attractive old town with a fantastic historical heritage. There are many restaurants but the quality in our opinion is not high. The major downside in the town is the problem with stray dogs. We counted as many as 15 to 20 roaming the town parks. For dog lovers, this is most upsetting. The town council has to do something to solve the problem and not by putting the dogs down.
River walkways.Castle and old town still well worth a visit. However a lot of very rundown buildings in the old town but regeneration underway. It is still the best town for shoe shops in the North of Portugal. Food and drink good value.
This is a place we are always returning, when we travel to the north of Portugal. Authentical quinta, property of portuguese noble family, now was given a new life by Luis and his family. We enjoyed calm and quite atmosphere, we enjoyed the wine cellar and rich breakfast. And of course, as usual, it was very interesting to talk to the property owner! This time we took other couple of friends with us, and they made beautiful photos of the garden and with horses!
Chaves
I need to start the review by highlighting the lady that was receiving us, very friendly, regarding the place is a very traditional farm with few houses that were kept as much original as possible so it is a great experience for a proper stone regional house. The view to the city of Chaves is amazing Lots os space to enjoy, playground, car park and that fresh bread from local bakery left on our door was top along with the rest of the breakfast products
This is the second time we've stayed at the Hotel Premium and will probably stay again. Excellent location on the outskirts of town but only a 10 minute walk to the centre of the old town via a walk along the beautiful riverside. Fantastic staff and facilities, covered parking at no extra cost
the location is very good.under ground secure car park.bars and restaurants short walk away.this hotel is the a cheap price hotel and basically for get what you pay for.i was with a group of men on a biking trip and stayed 6 nights for us it was ok but i would not take the wife
The entire stay, from the moment of checking in, to checking out was so efficient and friendly. It felt like staying with family! Delicious, well prepared and exquisitely presented meals and desert's. Very clean hotel. Exceptional service.
Great Place to enjoy myself. The Staff was that wonderfull helping me with every questions I had. Perfekt in English. Everything in this modern styled Hotel is 5 Stars PLUS.
