Os Moinhos is located in São Jorge Island, with views over the highest mountain in Portugal, sited in nearby Pico Island. The unit includes a garden and an à la carte restaurant. Liticia was such a wonderful hostess and she made our stay so comfortable and welcoming. She also helped us understand cultural differences about the island and made great recommendations about what to see and when. I can’t wait to go back and I’ll be staying there!
Offering a barbecue and views of the sea, Saint Jorge Farm and Bungalows is located in Velas. Free private parking is available on site. Each room includes a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. The owner of the property Fillip was extreme welcoming and very polite. He is very thoughtful and will do everything to make his guests happy. We are very pleased with the all experience and certainly recommended everyone who will visit this beautiful island.
Overlooking the village of Velas, Casa Da Encosta is located in the São Jorge island in the Azores archipelago. It offers accommodations for 4 people and panoramic views of the Pico across the sea. The spectacular view. The host was incredibly helpful and friendly.
Independent apartment in a private house, Cantinho D'Avenida is located at the end of Avenida do Livramento in the Entre Morros area, in the municipality of Velas, São Jorge Azores. Amazing apartment and fantastic location. Monica was a lovely host. The kitchen was well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. Would happily stay there again.
Tropical Fruit Garden is a detached holiday home, located in a quiet spot in the southern part of São Jorge Island, in Azores. We loved our stay with José! He is a lovely host and a very interesting person. His garden and all his vegetables and fruit were a treat. He also gave us fresh eggs! We cooked each night using his wonderful ingredients. He provided great advice about the island and made our stay very special. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed and more. I would highly recommend this place and hope to return.
Velas is a pretty small town right by the water. It has a marina and separate harbor for fishing boats. It is very clean with one pedestrian street with gift shops & couple cafes. We had an excellent meal at Acor just around the corner. We recommend Pasteleria Vertice do Triangulo for a bakery near fire station. There is a good supermarket with a very reasonable cafe for a quick bite. Beware of it's small crowded parking lot! Check out the 18th century harbor gate, pretty town square with a parakeet house and the promenade along the water with a natural saltwater pool in the lava rock and rock arch. Beware for non-smokers that many cafes have smoking area just outside the front doors which permeates inside no smoking area. Some have good separation so just check first. Locals are very kind and helpful to tourists. Just outside of Velas near airport we had a delicious traditional meal at Quina Atafona in traditional stone building!
We like hiking and the hikes were varied and very enjoyable. We were very impressed by the information given out by the friendly and helpful tourist office: brochures on each of the hikes and a map with information on how to get to them. The trails are all carefully described and waymarked. Great views of the big volcano on Pico, the neighbouring island. Lovely sunsets. An excellent restaurant up the hill about 5 minutes' drive away Furnas do Lava.
I was there in the shoulder season (May), so they hadn´t geared up for summer yet and many restaurants and bars weren´t open. Cafe Velense, right across from my hotel, was a good choice, although the menu was limited, because it was inexpensive and friendly. (I think the restaurant across from the church is overpriced, and the quality wasn´t any better.)
Beautiful natural pools. The views are great from pretty much everywhere. Best way to get here is by ferry, then rent a car and drive out to the countryside. Only downside is not too many dining options.

I had taken the ferry from Madalena which arrived at 9pm. It is only a 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal in Velas, so it was really convenient. The staff had contacted me and asked for my expected arrival time, so they were waiting for me and were ready for me to check in. On departure, I had to catch an early flight, so they made it a point to have breakfast earlier than usual and be ready for my checkout. It was much appreciated. Other than that, facilities are what I would expect: clean room, tv, WiFi, everything I needed.

Wake up in a rural setting with a stunning view on Mount Pico. Hotel os Moinhos is a perfect base for hiking trips through beautiful island Sao Jorge. In the evening we enjoyed a fantastic dinner in the restaurant. The friendly owners family and their staff were making our stay a true Azores countryside experience. NOTE: we'd recommend a rental car if you choose this property

It's a very quaint place, the only sound here is a wind and some animals from the neighborhood. Spacious, fully equipped. Velas town with all you could need is close enough to a property. A car is a necessary. All in all it was the best option for us we could find on the island during our stay. I could recommend this place for any peace lovers. Very nice and helpful owners.

We only stayed one night here. The pool area and grounds are beautiful! They should a restaurant/bar during the day ... rooms are clean and comfy. It’s no Azor hotel but the small islands don’t really have 5 star quality. They have a shuttle service to the airport (you need to reserve that) for 6 euros each. Staff were great! Thanks for a nice time.

Gisela was an amazing host. She picked us up from the airport when our flight got in late and left us some snacks in the apartment. The apartment was lovely and had the most amazing view of Velas and Pico island across the ocean. We only stayed one night but would recommend traveling to Sao Jorge and staying at this apartment.

Lydia, the host, is a very nice, kind lady and always there ready to help. The community around hotel is pretty nice. There are cafes, grocery store, supermarket near the hotel in a walk away distance. The room is not very big but comfy enough. The best part is the view of the Pico mountain from the balcony.

Perfect location in Velas, it's the nearest building to the ferry terminal. Airport shuttle and breakfast (from 7:30 to 10:00am) is included in the price. Some rooms have nice views to the harbour. Very quiet at night. Friendly staff. The shower is great (ser photo). Motorbikes and paddle surf for rent.
The location was perfect—right in the center of Velas with a view of the bandstand out our window. It is a very spacious apartment with an outfitted kitchen, two bathrooms and the use of a washing machine. Maria was available whenever we had a question or needed something. She was very warm and welcoming.

The hosts at Casa dos Rui's are very friendly and helpful. They kindly gave us a lift from Velas port to the house and went out of their way to suggest places to visit and to arrange transport when necessary. The house was very clean and the bed super comfortable, overall a great stay!!

The accomodation itself was of very high quality, clean and close to the centre of velas. We particularly enjoyed the outside seating area and the coffee machine.

The inn is hard to find as google maps was way off. We finally got ahold of Carlos, the manager, and he met us on the main road and we followed him in our car to the inn. The place is very comfortable and very clean, and the kitchen has most dishes and utensils that you need to cook. However, you’ll need to buy your own spices, oils, etc. Outside BBQ and dining area was nice to use. The stairs going to the lower level of the house could use a rail as they are made of lava stone and are a bit steep. Views are pretty good of Pico and sometimes you can even see the top of Pico mountain! On our final morning Carlos took me back to Lages do Vimes to buy coffee and he spent time with us in Velas waiting for the ferry. He is a great impromptu tour guide! He know quite a few of the islanders!

Gorgeous idyllic location. Renting a car to get to it is indispensable, but that is true for most of São Jorge anyway. We had a comfortable apartment with fully-equipped kitchen, sitting area, terrace, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, extremely affordable split among three adults. Breakfast included, as the necessary items (coffee and tea, yogurt, ham, cheese, etc.), provided in the apartment's kitchen and fresh bread delivered each morning. Friendly, helpful hostess.
