Travelers who stayed in Ponta Delgada near João Paulo II Airport (PDL) have said good things about Azoris Royal Garden – Leisure & Conference Hotel, Hotel Ponta Delgada, and MS Vila Nova.
Loads of eating places couldn’t recommend a favourite one they were all good even the cheap places, you should do the whale watching trip well worth it. If you have a car the whole Island is amazing for walking and great sight seeing, Furnas for the thermal springs, Sete Cidades just breathtaking views, great beach at Ribiera Grande, and the walks are well sign posted with great views just a great place to visit, this our second time here and this Island is a gem
The center is a pleasant place to wander, with good restaurants, a fair number of monumental buildings, a pleasant waterfront, and several impressive parks and gardens. While the Azores is mostly about natural places, which are accessed via day trips, the town itself exceeded my expectations as a place to spend time, see some historic and scenic sights, and enjoy some great food and drink. The airport is also easily accessible, which made it very workable to do a day trip to another island during our stay.
Love PDL...great city with lots of excellent restaurants and walkable streets, shopping, ocean front. Highly recommended. City was very busy with tourists and visitors so restautants were packed. Suggest reservations for dining out. Also many of the sites were over crowded so woild go back any month but July or August.
Amazing introduction to the Azore islands, friendly people, so many tours to do and so safe. All those instagram and Pinterest pictures are so true and easily assessable. Loved it and definitely going back. Try Cais 02 restaurant - huge portions and amazing service, I went for lunch rather than dinner as it’s easier to get seated. For amazing lunch you should also go to Intz48 coffee roasters Be prepared to walk a lot around town but get a car if you want to see the sights of Sete Ciadades or the tea plantations / hot springs- I used get your guide to book everything.
Ponta Delgada is a fantastic base for the island, good transport links and plenty of places to eat. Be aware the beaches are not as close as you might think, and in the heat are too far to walk unless you are staying at that end of town. I was staying near the fort which was too far in the heat, however the lido is a short walk (by the marina) and is fantastic, there is also a pool there. It's a good spot for collection for day trips too. It has some great restaurants and cafes and is still quite unspoilt as far as tourism goes, which is a bonus. This does however mean that at times restaurant service can be slow - you need to factor this in, as they are on Portuguese time which is their right :-). As far as possible try to pre-book trips and restaurants as they do fill quickly. Oh and make sure you visit the pineapple plantation - it's a short trip but full of information and the fruit is amazing!
Ponta Delgada was a great choice for a cheaper versatile vacation. I went solo without any expectations. Wanted to get a few activities in, but overall went there to rest. I was pleasantly surprised. Here's why: - weather was great (not too hot, not too cold, but still sunny for the most part) - views were amazing - lots of different things to do, from diving to swimming, to sunbathing, exploring caves or bathing in hot springs, even some sports like paragliding, plenty of guided tours (given what I thought were reasonable fees 35-75 Euros for the car tours), plenty of cheap museums (free on sundays), beautiful parks (most free), great food, great views etc Downsides I'd point out: - It can be really far to get to certain places of interest by foot - Bus system isn't the most reliable, so sometimes they are late or won't stop because they're already full, so you end up having to wait around a lot - taxis can be a bit expensive because there's no uber or any other competition - July was packed this year, so if you don't book some activities in advance, you may not be able to do it (diving for example, or some of the tours) - seemed like most closer to the city centre restaurants (the good ones) needed reservations in advance (2 days before), and really hard to find places for groups on the weekends; 2 people groups seemed to have no trouble, though Overall I woud recommend, especially if you rent a car a lot in advance to secure the best prices, same for hostels/hotels and your favourite activities. The views are beautiful, plenty of places to hike, ride bikes, drive around, swim, sail etc and the island history is also pretty awesome for the history nerds.
We had a great stay in Azor Hotel (now Octant Hotel). It started with a very friendly and helpful receptionist, João. The room is good size, clean and very modern, and the towels are very high quality (usually a good indicator for the quality of the hotel), bed is comfortable. The room view (with window to the floor) is amazing. The breakfasts are superb. The hotel has a great spa facility. The taxi ride from airport is less than15 minute. Most importantly, one can feel the hotel and the staff trying their best to be a top quality hotel.
Ponta Delgada
The location was great! The Flat was spacious and modern. The beds were really comfortable. There was even a possibility to do laundry in the apartment. The staff was really nice - he gave us so many useful tips, for example that there is an app called spot azores which allows you to access the webcams all over Azores so you are able to see what kind of weather there is where you are heading -very handy ´cause the weather can be very different on other sides of the island and a fog can be very thick and prevent to see anything.
Ponta Delgada
The Santa Rita Guesthouse was the perfect place to stay during our time on Sao Miguel Island. Great location not too far from Ponta Delgada. Rui is an incredible host and went above and beyond in making sure we had everything we needed. He even helped us print documents we needed for our return flight to the US. The space itself is large, clean, and fully functional. We used the kitchen as well as the laundry facilities during our stay. Can't go wrong with staying here!
Ponta Delgada
Vintage Place-Azorean Guest House is one of the best accomodation I ever had! They allowed us a late check-in, the room and bathroom are big and very comfortable. Everything is so clean and they clean the room and change the towels every day! The breakfast is amazing! On top of all of that, the staff is amazing. They helped us with everything we needed, even arranged us a rent-a-car. When I come back to Azores, I will definitely stay here again!!
Ponta Delgada
Perfect large room for stay in Ponta Delgada. The hosts are very friendly and easygoing, and the room is private and quiet. It's less than ten minutes to walk to the center of town. It's nice to have a large and comfortable room to come back to or stay in if it's a stormy day. I visited at the end of November and the room was also well-heated. Very strong and very hot and clean shower as well. Everything was great.
Ponta Delgada
We really loved the view, and the location, right next to the beach! The host gave us great activity and restaurant recommendations and the price was extremely reasonable for the view and location. Also, the parking garage was very convenient. One of the best things was we were able to check in early, at 9 a.m. and sleep a bit to help us w/ our jet lag. Also the laundry machine and drying rack were very appreciated.
Ponta Delgada
The place is 99,99 out of 100. Seriously, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed. Perfectly saved vintage facility where each step full-filed by love and attention. Everything aimed to make your stay cozy and comfy. You'll not expect this level of quality of everything, and I want to highlight - of everything, with the price it has called.
Ponta Delgada
We really liked it and would definetly stay here again. The garden is beautiful and in warm weather you can use the pool, jacuzzi or barbecue. Paula and João are very helpful and friendly. The location is excellent, close to Ponta Delgada and the airport and relatively close to all the places on the island. At the same time it is pretty calm.
location is great to walk to anything in Ponta Delgada. The room was exceptionally clean, as was the rest of the property. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. the breakfast was delicious. There is also Panaderia Gomes bakery next door which is the best bakery in the world, open 21 hrs per day. taxi to airport is quick and about 10€.
Ponta Delgada
Fantastic hospitality from Marcos and his sister. He gave me lots of advice during my stay and explained a lot about the Azores. And whenever I had questions, I could call. It's a beautiful hostel, with large rooms, decorated with good taste, really more like rooms in a romantic hotel. There is plenty of food for breakfast.
This was my 2nd stay at Casa do Teatro and it as usual exceeded every expectation. The room was impeccably clean, comfortable, and plenty spacious. The location is absolutely perfect, walkable to just about anywhere in the city center. Will definitely stay again on my next trip to Ponta Delgada!
Great service from the front desk, concierge and cleaning staff. The room was clean, king bed was very comfortable and rainfall shower was a plus. The hotel overlooks a marina which isn’t the best view but it is in a great location for whale watching tours and the local market and restaurants.
Ponta Delgada
The rooms and common areas were immaculate. The 15 ft ceilings everywhere in the building were amazing. A lot of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The staff were the most attentive and helpful of any hotel I have used. They made our stay in Ponta Delgada memorable.
Ponta Delgada
Awesome sea views, free parking, very friendly staff, and well equipped rooms. The breakfast was good enough considering the price. The hotel was great value for money and although not the best location, you can get to Ponta Delgada for €7 in a taxi.
Ponta Delgada
Breakfast was very good with local products from the Azores, served with great sympathy from the staff. The hotel has a heated internal small pool in one of the glasshouses with ambiance music so that you can relax along with the pineapples.
Ponta Delgada
It’s a ten!!! This is the place to stay if you’re coming to São Miguel! With a view to die for, the most amazing hosts that will make you feel so welcome... I can say I found my home in Azores! Thank you so much for all your kindness!
Great new, well decorated hotel with amazing pool facilities and nice breakfast, right in the center of Ponta Delgada. Has a bit of a feel of a business hotel or hotel catering big groups.
great location in Ponta Delgada, near to everything! the Staff is very friendly and helpful. Claudia in the dining room is delightful!
