Viseu, located in the heart of Portugal, is a beautiful city with very good restaurants and bars/pubs, wine is a must to experiment and taste. The old town is perfect for walking and during the day we can also visit Fontelo Park. It is near the Serra da Estrela the highest point of Portugal.
The recommended tags isn't letting me put WINE as a category for recommendation. Viseu is the centre of Portugal's best wine region. Not it's best known, but its best nonetheless. That's why we went. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming city, the good food, the cleanliness, the friendly people and the history, but we genuinely just went there for the wine, and we weren't disappointed.
It’s a really beautiful place, people are friendly. There are great day trips to be done eg Serra da Estrela, and in the summer river beaches and lakes to help pass the hot days. Not far away is the small village of Santar, worth visiting and have lunch at Paços dos Cunhas, where the set daily menu is excellent. Viseu is easy to get around on foot. There are some great places to Eat too. The linen museum is worth a visit, as are some local wineries - Quinta do Perdigão is a small winery run by José and Vanessa. Vanessa is English and an artist. You can taste wine and learn about the grapes.
The town seems nice enough, with a number of semi-interesting sights to see but the PARKING, what a nightmare. Way to many cars, way too few parking spots and parking lots. What happened to carpooling, riding the bus, a bicycle, save the environment, all that stuff. Not in Viseu. Everyone drives their own car apparently, some might drive two. Very frustrating place to try to navigate around.
It is a beautiful city. The people are very friendly. The city is clean and untouched by tourists and i believe that this gave myself and friends a real appreciation of the culture of Portugal and it's people. The architecture and steep winding streets and shops enhanced my experience. I would higly recommend visting Viseu to anyone.
Having already visited Coimbra, Evora, Braganca and Tomar we appreciate the charms of smaller Portugese cities when compared to overcrowded Porto and Lisbon, and Viseu didn't disappoint - lots to explore on foot, great choice of cafes and restaurants, and much friendlier welcome than in the bigger cities.
The perfect location, just a few minutes of walking will get you to some of the most beautiful places in Viseu. The hotel has loads of character and is incredibly well decorated. Our room was just the right size and our beds were perfectly comfortable. Breakfast was truly amazing, with a great selection of really high quality products. Bonus points for accommodating for my partner's dietary restrictions in advance -- truly awesome!
The hotel is in an excellent location and has ample parking. It's very grand looking and impressive. The pool area and garden are lovely. Our room was great very comfortable and not a bad size. Breakfast was included in the price and was great. There was a lot of variety. There is also a nice bar area. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly
Viseu
Very central location in the heart of Viseu, close to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, the famous monuments and so forth. Room was great, heating worked really nice. Decor was very original and charming. We also enjoyed having a very good yet affordable restaurant on the main floor. It is owned by the same person who owns Charme e Alegria.
This is a lovely hotel with excellent customer service. We had an issue with the heat in our room that was handled well and quickly. The covid protocols were clear and well implemented They made great efforts to stagger guests in the public areas, which we appreciated. It was a great stay and we plan to visit again.
Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was the same as it is in the photos. It was equipped with everything that I needed (AC, hairdryer...). Hotel is very close to the city center, walking distance. Would highly recommend everyone to stay in this place.
