Had never been to Kauai (and we went in the winter so the North Shore wasn't where we wanted to stay.) Having looked at maps of the island and things we want to schedule doing we decided on Kapaa because it was a centralized location to both the North Shore (where we did want to spend a day at) and also the south shore (were we did a lot lot activities) So due it's location on the island and where we wanted to travel to , Kapaa was the perfect choice. Traveling to the areas outside Kappa was also a great way to see as much of the island as possible. Kapaa is a nice laid back area as is much of Kauai. We were there about 8 days. Would return there in the future if we should be so lucky to get back to Kauai. As for restaurants, we ate ( and celebrated a birthday) at Hukilau Lanai (at the Kauai Coast Resort...where we also stayed) The food and atmosphere were excellent. We had lunch at Lava Lava Beach Club (which was next door) Food was great and sitting on sand/grass right at the ocean was perfect! We also ate at Bull Shed. (Also right next door to our resort the other direction) Wonderful food there as well. Wanted to check out Lemongrass Grill but it was closed the day we wanted to go. We traveled to so many places on the island that we ate at a variety of places while on our journeys. We never experience bad food on Kauai. WE also got a lot of food./snacks/shave ice and treats at the Coconut Marketplace ( a great place and was practically in our resort parking lot so we were there A LOT!!Guest review byMcfatridge - 10.0
Beautiful!
Beautiful! The grounds are well maintained and kept up daily. We went to the pool every day, at different times each day. While we were there it never felt like the pool area was too small. Loved being a very short walk to an easy access to a sandy beach. We used the walking path every day to go for our morning swim at Lydgate beach. We also liked snorkeling there, I believe we counted 15 different types of fish swimming in there. It was so fun looking for them in the calmer area there. Great place to swim for the entire family! We have been to Kauai many, many times.
We have been to Kauai many, many times. The first night we stay in a hotel near Kapaa, and then we rent a house on the north shore in Hanaei near/on the water. Minimum of two weeks. 3 is preferable. Kapaa has a lot of great places to eat and there is some good shopping areas. There is a path that follows along the beach which is great for renting a bike and going for a ride. The Wailua river runs to the ocean at Kapaa. This is a great place to rent a kayak and enjoy the calm waters of the river. The Coconut Marketplace in Kapaa, has some great shopping and some great places to eat. For budget friendly meals, stop in the Country Marketplace deli for some delicious Loco Moco or a refreshing Poke Bowl. For a fantastic burger and cold draft beer, try out BV's Bourbon & Ale House. If outstanding smoked BBQ is your thing, then Chicken in a Barrell is your place. Order the ribs, kalua pork or brisket and you can't go wrong. They also have a self serve beer tap with a great selection to wet your whistle. Kapaa is centrally located on the east coast, making it a great kicking off point to either the north or south side of the island. This was the second time we stayed in Kapaa and will probably stay there again.Guest review byfirewalker909United States

Rooms were nice, bathroom good size. Lanai was a good size. Lovely grassed area leading to beach to enjoy the view. Free sunrise yoga and bike hire (although we didn’t take advantage of this on our trip). We were able to see whales in the distance from our lanai.
