Travelers who stayed in Hawaii near Honolulu Airport (HNL) have said good things about Aston at the Executive Centre Hotel, Prince Waikiki, and Ilikai Lite.
I have lived in Honolulu before so I may be a bit partial. It is a great place for a vacation, if you want to spend the cash. The cost of flying in from most locations is not bad but the hotel stays and food costs are what will get you. It is a relatively safe location, if you stick to downtown, and there are plenty of things to do mostly because the weather is always awesome. I would recommend getting off the beaten path and heading to the farmers markets on the weekends. the swap meet at the Aloha bowl is okay but the farmers market near the college campus is better, albeit smaller. Transportation is a bit spendy although Uber has moved in and is doing well, the cabs are a little bit expensive. there are some must sees in my opinion such as the Arizona and Missouri. If you like it outdoors then hit Diamond Head for an easy hike that is fun and refreshing. the people have always been friendly to me and the malls are big enough to keep you busy for a bit. What is Hawaii without the beaches. each side of the island hosts different types of beaches so explore a little and don't just hang out in Waikiki.
Over past few years we've holidayed regularly in Waikiki. This time we were returning home from a couple of Caribbean cruises (inc.Cuba) so took the opportunity to stopover in Hawaii so as to finally visit 'Shangri-la' ( Islamic Gallery/Museum- established by the late Doris Duke, just below and beyond Diamond Head).Well worth it!! Tours can only be booked through Honolulu Museum of Art which also allows free entry on the day of your tour.If you haven't yet climbed Diamond Head do it after touring 'Shangri-la' so that you'll know where to look down on it from above; a beautiful estate right on the beach,
Honolulu is really my home so I love it. I worry about so many homeless and wonder why so many are indigenous people. No place beats Hawaii for its aloha spirit.
I stayed at Hawaii Islands for 6 days and visited Big Island and Oahu. Both the islands are very different from each other. The Big island is famous for volcanoes and it was a real sight to see it in action. There are multiple places to visit on the Big Island and every one of them is equally good. I stayed on a hotel in Kona neighborhood and it was very close by shopping places and eateries. In Oahu, I stayed in the downtown Waikiki area and the hotel was close to every major attraction. I visited Diamond head, North Shore, Polynesian Cultural Center, Dole Plantation, Byodo In temple, King Kamehameha Statue, ʻIolani Palace, Hanauma Bay and many more. I used Uber and local buses to travel around and it was very easy to navigate around in the local buses.
Most perturbed by USA Mainland policy of giving one way tickets to homeless persons to Hawaii. Vagrants everywhere unlike 5 years ago. Makes one afraid to sit on public benches. A problem is not solved by transferring it to another state to become some one else's burden. I felt sorry for the deterioriation of the once beautiful and clean Wakiki, as there were homeless persons resident on beaches, bus sheds, benches, picnic tables and public discourses. Shame on mighty America for failing to provide a mandatory Homeless Person rehabitation and reintegration program.
Lots to do if you like a busy city on the pacific. Be sure to go to Iolani Palace and to Kawaiaho Church to get some Hawaiian history. But go to North shore when tired of city.
The location of the hotel was close to swimming areas for kids. Mall with food, shops and movies are all close by. Hawaiian Style Cafe was the best for eating breakfast!!! Don’t forget your chocolate at Big Island Candies!
Second visit to Princeville....this time for a wedding...Same experience as last visit...Terrible weather, roosters making noise all night long, limited dining options....although beautiful views everywhere, many better places to visit in Hawaii....
Honolulu was nice but it is very crowded. It was good to go up to the north shore and get away from Waikiki. The Polynesian Cultural Center is a must visit for anyone coming to Hawaii for the first time.
I was visit 4 island out of 8 on my cruise trip around Hawaii. I stay 2 nights before and 2 nights after in Waikiki beach area: first two nights in - Hyatt, then 2 nights in Aston hotel on beach. Honolulu is big city with a lot of homeless around. And a lots of tourists on a beach of Waikiki. All beaches area belongs to the public, even if you stay in exepensive hotels, they don’t have designated areas for the guises. It’s hard to fine spots under the shade. But if you travel a little bit further out of center, you can fine a very nice place to swim. The same concept with food, the further from center the better deal: cheaper, bigger and better. Public transportation is great. I took a bus to Pearl Harbor for a $5,50 around trip from Waikiki area. Practically, you can get to all locations, very convenient. Uber is much cheaper than taxi, very reliable, trip from Waikiki beach hotel to port cost $17. Shuttle is practical too: to hotel from airport, cost $16 each way. Hawaii is most beautiful place in earth. The tru Hawaiian people is very sperutial, love the land they are leaving on and cherished every single stone on it. Hawaii has everything on earth: beautiful, year around warm ocean; Incredible waterfall; volcanic craters, erupted volcanic, lava; breath taking views of shore lines; canyons; even snow in mountains. It’s like Great Canyon, Yellowstone Park, road between LA and SF, Amalfy cost of Italy and beauty of Greece all together. It’s paradise!!! It’s best vacation so far.
Waikiki, Honolulu
We traveled with our family including three generations and we all had a fabulous time. The location of the hotel in relationship to the beach, restaurants and shopping is superior. The staff could NOT have been any more helpful, accomodating, friendly or courteous. If I had to compare this experience to past ones in Las Vegas, as well as Neport Beach, CA I would rate this above all the others. This was our first trip to Hawaii to celebrate our 51st anniversary, but God willing, it will NOT be our last. Kuddos to all.
The room is clean, the bed comfortable, water pressure was decent. But what really set this hotel apart in my mind, was the breakfast! A full American style breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, several waffle machines, with toppings! Really good coffee! Three different types of juices, yogurt, with fruit, bagels, you name it they had for breakfast! And plenty of it! In our 12 days on the Hawaiian islands where breakfast was offered as part of the accommodations this was hands-down the best! Bravo best western bravo!
Two particularly helpful staff - Brayden and Sarah.. So warm, friendly and genuinely helpful. The hotel is cosy, has a Hawaiian feel about it as opposed to your typical modern hotel chains. It felt very homely. Super comfortable, good use of space in the room, loved the kitchenette with hot plates a microwave and fridge which came in very handy and helped to cut costs. Last but not least, a fantastic location right in the heart of Waikiki - close to everything and everywhere. I will definitely return next time.
Lahaina
We loved the cultural aspects of the experience at Ka'anapali Beach Hotel. We appreciate the efforts to ensure a uniquely Hawaiian experience amid all the mega hotels. The deli was a great advantage for having small snacks and purchases. The bakery/snack counter outside the lobby was wonderful, too! We enjoyed some snacks and drinks with the evening music and dancing. The room was large (king bed) and felt very roomy. It was nice to have the small fridge and coffee maker.
Location: So close to beach, hilo and vulcano national park Free Parking nearby Super spacious room with comfortable double bed Very friendly owner Least expensive private room on the whole island, maybe even in whole of state hawaii Kitchen fully equipped, Restrooms nice Nice sitting area outside, and hanging around makes fun too, super quiet to sleep. My favorite Hostel from now on, i would call the whole area with private rooms more like HOTEL instead of HOSTEL
This hotel had everything and at an affordable price. Great location w quick walk to Waikiki Beach, Honolulu Zoo, Royal Hawaiian and International Market so lots of options for eating, drinking and shopping. Loved that there was a convenience store right thru the lobby, TR Fire Grill had our daily breakfast plus a dynamite Happy Hour! Comfy bed and pillows and soft bedding along w the Kurieg coffee maker in the room made it a great easy start to our day.
Kailua-Kona
The hotel was in a perfect central location, close to heaps of restaurants and shops. It was right on the water front and had a wonderful large outdoor area of pools and comfortable peaceful seating areas with lush trees around. There was also a private lagoon to swim in which was a pleasant surprise. It definitely felt like being in a Hawaiian resort with the sounds of the ocean in the background and amazing views.
This hotel was awesome. The open air lobby was unexpected but, as we found out, was typical of Hotels in Hawaii. Our room was large and very comfortable. We had a lovely view of the ocean and it’s surfers. Coffee in the morning on the balcony was delightful. The hotel offered a Grab and Go breakfast every morning, but we opted for breakfast in the restaurant. Delicious meal and great staff (Erna, thank you!)
Waikiki, Honolulu
The location is right on the beach, yet private. Rooms are large and newly refurbished. The whole property is very clean with luscious greens and plants. Hotels key provides free access to some of Hawaii's museums. Evening entertainment is very low-key yet high quality: little noise after 8 pm. The pool is not very big, but all the amenities in the pool area made the pool time very enjoyable.
Lahaina
Perhaps I had diminished expectation coming from Honolulu and high prices of hotels generally in Hawaii. The resort felt like a resort (2 pools with a hot spa, towel service), room (apartment) was big and comfortable with kitchen and laundry. Beach access was great (there was a rocky area but you can walk to the sandy part). Had DVD rental and a library! There was also a lawn with some games.
The location was great. Steps away from the beach and located on a street with some good food trucks. The staff was as friendly and helpful as any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. We were so happy with our stay, that after doing some island hopping we returned for our final night in Hawaii where they gave us a free room upgrade to a room with a kitchenette! and the biggest bed I’ve ever seen!
Everything was amazing which led to having wonderful time on our first trip to Hawaii. The staff was always helpful, polite and smiling. The location was convenient because it is a 30-minute drive to almost every attraction on the island. The whole property is super clean, the room was spacious with a really nice view of the ocean and a big balcony. Free parking!!
We have been staying for three weeks on Hawaii and among the places we stayed, this was clearly the best. Reasonable price, large and clean room. We stayed in the 2BR apartment and everything was provided, even small salt and pepper shaker, dishwasher and washer detergents (which was not always the case in other properties). We are more than happy to come again.
great location in Waikiki in the quiet bit. We didn’t rate Waikiki as a place overall (there are far nicer parts of Hawaii or even Oahu) but nothing to do with the hotel and if you want to visit there, this is a good spot. staff were great and view from ocean very was lovely reception was clearly newly renovated and was really nice
Best time had here! We loved everything about this place - rooms are modern & fresh, location is fantastic, activities are great without being too "in your face", the restaurant has wonderful food and spectacular views, loved the coffee shop, staff are friendly & helpful and the hallways even smell hawaiian!
Hilo
Staying at Hilo Bay Hostel ,, is like being part of history , it is the oldest hostel in hawaii , but it is the oldest hotel on the big island, Burns Hotel in 1912 , was made for the rich or people with money,, it is a part of old hawaii that should be part of your visit to hilo ,, Awsome Hostel with a Awsome staff,,
Honolulu
Nice hostel ! Amazing host Sue and her sister Johana. make me feel very welcomed and gave me amazing tips to travel around Honolulu. Couple of minute walk to the bus station if you don’t have a car it’s very convenient. Very clean facilities. Loved that they practice traditional Hawaiian culture.
Trump International Hotel gave me the best satisfaction during my stay in hawaii. It was close to Waikiki, and I liked the view, and the very, very friendly staff. The response before arriving at the accommodation was excellent, and the feedback was fast. It was the best hotel I stayed in Hawaii.
Poipu, Koloa
We had an apartment 404. It was clean and nice ly decorated (hawaiian style). Apartment is located next to the main street and has no AC but neither of us was bothered by these. Garden view is good, very calm and secluded. Walk to the beach is about 5 min but it is a nice leg-streching work out.
What can be better than a week on the beach in Wailea/Kihei area. Grounds at Ekahi are beautiful, units are private and quiet. Only 2 floors, so you feel you're really in Hawaii, rather than the big hotels with loud courtyards. We like the pool and easy access to the beach.
