FAQs about hotels in Seattle

The Emerald City

Nicknamed the Emerald City due to its lush greenery, Seattle is best known for its great waterfront, fantastic skyline and infamous rainy weather. In reality though, the city gets less rain a year than New York or Atlanta!

One look at Seattle’s skyline and you’re immediately drawn to the iconic Space Needle. Standing proudly at 600 feet, this major landmark features a rotating restaurant at 490 feet and has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, including the classic "Sleepless in Seattle."

The Needle isn't far from the popular Pike Place Market, a public farmer’s market selling fresh produce and crafts from local farms and independent merchants. It’s also the place where the Starbucks Corporation was founded in 1971. Enjoy a cup of coffee in their original store! Seattle has many popular parks and, thanks to its mild marine climate, is a great place for outdoor activities. A visit to Kerry Park to admire the best view of the city with Mt. Rainier in the background is a must!

Arriving at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, you’re only about 35 minutes from downtown and whether you’re looking for a hotel with free parking or near the airport, Booking.com has a great choice for your Seattle trip.

I love the setting, between the sea, lakes and mountains, and all that Seattle has to offer to tourists. The seafood is great. It is a very large city though and hard to find your way around by public transport.

Walkable city with plenty of attractions.

Walkable city with plenty of attractions. Surprised that within the City Centre the choice of shops is limited and there does appear to be a lot of empty properties. Like many other cities it has a homeless/drug problem which is very evident out in the open on streets close to Pike Street Market. That being said it felt relatively safe.

I was very disappointed in Seattle.

I was very disappointed in Seattle. Lots of unfortunate people on the streets, living rough; lots of drug addiction. I found it worse than San Francisco. Seattle was very expensive, and very grasping for tips, even before you've even been served a sandwich! Two Seattle taxi apps want you to set a tip before the taxi is confirmed. Use Uber, as you have a tip option AFTER the ride. In a couple of restaurants we found that staff will play on your heart strings to get a tip out of you. The bay area was beautiful, but the prices for food etc are high.

It is a beautiful city but unfortunately there seemed to be a lot of "street people" yelling and screaming outside at night. As women travellers we did not feel particularly safe outside after dark. Since we were only there one night, on the way to our cruise we didn't take in many sights but Chihuly Gardens was exceptional. Ubers were always on time when booked ahead.

Beautiful city with excellent views of the snowclad...

Beautiful city with excellent views of the snowclad mountains and the attractions around the harbor. However, the area in and around downtown Seattle/Pikes Place Market has a lot of homeless people and at time felt unsafe and very unclean. We are not going back to Seattle in near future.
