JapanAIBIYA is owned by a young married couple, Seongmi and Yoshi, who were incredibly kind and helpful during my stay. Seongmi welcomed me with a glass of sake during check-in, and she provided lots of great recommendations for food and things to do in the area. Talking with a local sushi shop owner of 50+ years and his regulars while eating delicious yellowtail was a very memorable experience! I also had a lot of fun talking with Seongmi in Korean and listening to her interesting background. 누나 방가웠어요! The ryokan itself is very clean, with a large commercial kitchen and activity room for socializing. A simple breakfast of fruits, cereal, bread, and tea is provided each morning. My room was also very large, clean, and spacious. The station is a 5-minute walk away where you can take a 30-minute bus to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort (1,000 JPY roundtrip per day if purchased online) or a free shuttle to a smaller ski resort nearby. Highly recommend AIBIYA for your next stay!

ChileFamiliar Hostal, Akira-san y Yumi-san (the family that owns the ryokan) were extremely kind and helpful. They even drive me by car to the train station in a rainy day. Dinner and breakfast was very delicious, specially the dinner so I definitely recommend to give it a try. The onsen is nice and private (you need to appoint in a time slot before) so it doesn’t have any issues with tattoo. During my long journey through Japan I visited a lot of onsen and ryokans, and personally I think this was the best ryokan that I stayed. Totally recommended.
