AIBIYA is owned by a young married couple, Seongmi and Yoshi, who were incredibly kind and helpful during my stay. Seongmi welcomed me with a glass of sake during check-in, and she provided lots of great recommendations for food and things to do in the area. Talking with a local sushi shop owner of 50+ years and his regulars while eating delicious yellowtail was a very memorable experience! I also had a lot of fun talking with Seongmi in Korean and listening to her interesting background. 누나 방가웠어요! The ryokan itself is very clean, with a large commercial kitchen and activity room for socializing. A simple breakfast of fruits, cereal, bread, and tea is provided each morning. My room was also very large, clean, and spacious. The station is a 5-minute walk away where you can take a 30-minute bus to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort (1,000 JPY roundtrip per day if purchased online) or a free shuttle to a smaller ski resort nearby. Highly recommend AIBIYA for your next stay!

Familiar Hostal, Akira-san y Yumi-san (the family that owns the ryokan) were extremely kind and helpful. They even drive me by car to the train station in a rainy day. Dinner and breakfast was very delicious, specially the dinner so I definitely recommend to give it a try. The onsen is nice and private (you need to appoint in a time slot before) so it doesn’t have any issues with tattoo. During my long journey through Japan I visited a lot of onsen and ryokans, and personally I think this was the best ryokan that I stayed. Totally recommended.

Early July, we were the only travellers so we had the onsen to ourselves. There was male, female and private onsen available. There was excellent service, and they welcomed our young toddlers. We got driven to the Jigokudani Monkey Park and picked up by Yumoto-san. Yumoto-san and his wife also helped style our family in yukata for photos.

Yumoto-san has a very welcoming and lovely ryokan and we stayed in a traditional family room with shoji and tatami mats. We loved the ambiance, the view, and the onsen facilities. We also got a free lift to the snow monkey park. Great for families in a place full of character even if everything is a little dated.

Great location, excellent staff. We thought we would eat out in the evenings, but there are’’t many restaurants near by, so we booked dinner each night (and had breakfast included), the food was great with Japanese style, loads of options for us and the kids. Super fun, welcoming and easy place to stay.

Not much to be honest. When we arrived, we were told we could only have one person in each family room, even though we booked 6 rooms for 7 people, very strange! The beds were uncomfortable, and the pillow was basically a sandbag! The location was great for the Snow Monkeys, and they offer a free shuttle service, but there was no pick up. We ordered dinner and were told we had to eat somewhere else because some Karate Kid wannabe was hosting some tragic show.

It’s a stunning family run lodge, with great style. The breakfasts were outstanding, kids loved the pizzas for dinner and we all enjoyed the private onsen. It’s opposite the lift and ski school area which was fab. We had an interconnecting family room with a toilet between us and our two boys in bunk beds.

It’s VERY quiet if you like quiet. It’s a ski-in-ski-out, great for family with kids, or a big group of friends. But keep in mind there is no village. You have to eat dinner at the hotel, unless you have a car. But the owner was super lovely! Would stay there again just because of the owner!

Pick-up/drop-off to/from the station and the monkey park were super convenient. Staff were lovely and the rooms spacious - futon also really comfortable (much more than many of the regular, too-firm hotel beds and pillows in Japan). Amazing Japanese breakfast and dinner experiences. Lovely views from the hotel rooms and the cafe/bar area. Ability to book a private onsen was also a nice touch - fun experience for a couple or family.

The staff, the food, the facilities, the location, everything. The extra plus points: staff can understand english. the chef is great, the course meal is a must. It has indoor n outdoor onsen. The ryokan is shining brightly in the area that giving us the feeling of a safe place, especially after a stroll in a quiet n cold night. The family members are having fun strolling in yukata. Amazing experience.
