Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.
Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.
Everything about Darwin is great. Weather, sights, trips to nearby attractions, food, all great. You can walk from here to everything in town...did I mention the food?
Cheap car rental next door to accommodation is handy.

Darwin has a vibe, full of lovely cafes and nightspots and a very interesting history from World War 2 and Cyclone Tracy. The Waterfront area is beautiful, lovely well maintained parks and fabulous markets. Evenings, everyone comes out to see the spectacular sunsets over the water. Evenings are warm - people go out walking, outdoor exercise classes and pop up eateries galore. Gateway also to Litchfield, Katherine and Kakadu - what's not to love!

I really found the on off bus was very good, really helpful and cost effective. A great way to find your way around Darwin and find the touring attractions which were very interesting & enjoyable.
I liked the warm weather not too humid in April.
I may come back next year in July just to get way from Adelaide's winter.

It was wet season but that made it more pleasant as it kept things a little cooler and less crowded. I would definitely go in the wet season again. I loved the lush tropical feel and smell of the foliage. The scenery was amazing and the fact it is a small city made it easy to walk and use E scooters. Plenty of picturesque foliage and water scenes. Shopping also convenient with major supermarket open until late.
Must visit us Aquascene to feed the fish at high tide. Check website for opening times as they change depending on tides.
Monsoons is nice for food on the main street.
On Litchfield st is Tim's Surf and Turf. Great food, kids treated well, lots of families and Tim is a great host.
Get out to Cullen Bay for a chill walk and a few restaurants.
The wharf area and waterfront definitely worth a visit and only short walk from main street. Catch a free shuttle which will take you around the wharf area and waterfront to save your legs.

Double check everything and insist if it doesn't match what you have booked that they double check everything. My last day was a bitter disappointment due to a stuff-up on the tour providers side. Other than that Darwin is lovely. Parap markets-great. Wildlife park-excellent.

Most things are close by, lots to do, free things to do, beautiful sunrise and sunset, good restaurants.
Must see:- sunset at Mindil Casino, dinner at the waterfront, swim in the man made lagoon.
I recommend the hop on hop off bus tour.
Parking in the city can be difficult but you can Uber anywhere in the city in 5-10 mins. Wait time for an Uber is 1-2 mins.
Favourite places to eat - Hanuman Restaurant and Trampoline ice cream.
Darwin Hotel and the Deck Bar have good food and atmosphere.
Do not recommend Monsoon. The burger buns are hard as a rock.
Excellent budget friendly room rates. Excellent location. Only minutes walk to supermarkets, pubs, eateries, parks & gardens. Bus stop a few blocks up to take you to the main Darwin bus terminal to go anywhere. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a bonus kitchenette. Pool is excellent and clean with shade and full sun. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much to assist you with. Special mention to Brad and Emma for making our stay great. Will definitely stay again when visiting Darwin next time. Very happy guest.
The three bedroom apartment that we stayed at was really clean, modern and comfortable for six adults. The pool was decent in size and clean, a great place to hangout and cool down in the Darwin heat. The location is great! There’s a few takeaways and restaurants just outside the hotel and a couple of shopping centres a few minutes drive. It wasn’t too far from the Darwin city either as there really isn’t traffic there so 20-25 minutes tops to get there.
Was great value for money. The hosts were so easy to deal with and very friendly. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable. The view from the balcony was absolutely amazing. Watching the storms roll in from a disatance. So close to all Darwin has to offer. I found it quite convenient and close to restaurants. And the waterfront is a quick scooter ride away. Absolutely loved the stay and have already booked another weekend in a few months time.
Excellent accessibility from airport and especially useful for short stay for connecting flight. Free airport shuttle is terrific although you can literally push luggage trolley across the road to reach the hotel. Pool area lovely and clean however. Bathrooms renovated. Modern. Large great shower. Comfy beds. Decent sized rooms and value for money. Breakfast tasty but understaffed making busy times hectic and slow serviced.
Unsure why you asked if we liked the breakfast, there is no cafe/restaurant on site. I was travelling with my adult son and the apartment was large enough for the both of us as we don't live in the same house back home. It was a convenient location for us to stay as we were visiting family in Stuart Park, for others it may have been a little far away from the city/esplanade/waterfront
These affordable apartments share the building with Mantra Hotel. Next door there are some backpacker accommodation, which can be a bit noisy until @ 10pm, and the view is over the back streets of Darwin CBD.
Overall a very well appointed room in need of some minor updates.
Good security and friendly staff.
The apartments, while a little dated, were clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, and the supplied linen was clean and fresh. The location is great, central to Darwin without the price being excruciatingly high.
central location in city center. Wlaking distance to all that I wanted as a tourist. Room was basic and like other hotels soundproofing is very basic. No restaurant service which is important for breakfast.
The hotel seems quite new. The rooms are really big and comfortable. Breakfast omelettes were very good. Palmerston is about 25 minutes out of Darwin city, but suited us quite well.
The apartment is in the best location for a family stay on Darwin. Clean and bright with excellent air con, a great stop to over look the waterfront district.
