Penola is a lovely country town where you could spend a few days sightseeing. We were there for a wedding and only spent a short time in the town. We would have liked to had time to browse in the shops, such as the antique shop and check out the beautiful old homes in the township and visit some of the wineries. You could also spend time in Naracoorte sightseeing the caves which is not too far to travel from Penola.

Pipers Restaurant in Penola was excellent, a first-class place to eat with great service. Penola is right on the doorstep of the Coonawarra wine region, renowned for its red wine, however the whites and rose are excellent too.

A lovely little historical town full of warm and welcoming people. Petticoat Lane is full of historical history and the original cottages from the early settlers are just a wonderful window into the past

Is a lovely little country town in the heart of the Coonawarra wine district. It has a quaint main street with a couple of pubs. A nice mix of historical and modern buildings in a picturesque setting. Whilst we were there it was a good mix of cold nights perfect for sipping wine around a fire and warm days for visiting local wineries. There was a nice amount of shops and cafes to spend an afternoon in. The local pub The Royal Oak was a beautiful pub and the meal and wine we had there was excellent. It had a great atmosphere and was very close to our accommodation. We were originally just passing through on our way to Adelaide but we enjoyed it so much that we changed our plans and went there again on our way home. We found Penola the perfect stop over for the trip from Geelong to Adelaide but plan to add an extra day to our future trips to enjoy this lovely town and its surroundings.

Penola is a little piece of Burgundy nestled in the Coonawarra near the border of SA and Vic. The arrangement is so similar, with tightly packed wineries scattered along the main road north and south of the town - too many to see and taste all at once. Multiple trips are definitely required, and the heritage value of the town itself is compelling, with the history of Australia's only catholic saint beautifully presented at the MacKillop Interpretive Centre, and other preserved heritage buildings and infrastructure for one of the earliest established towns in South Australia.
Bread, milk , butter, vegemite and jams - bacon and local free range eggs and condiments all provided.
It was excellent. Coffee pod machine ,tea , filtered water etc etc .. ( even easter eggs )
A gorgeous historic cottage , close to all amenities in Penola township.
The beds were comfortable . The bedding was contemporary and natural .
The toiletries were 5*****hotel quality .
The host messaged us to ensure we had an easy check in before arrival .
We had a lovely stay here . Thank you .
Based in the centre of Penola, the accommodation was ideally located for shops, pubs and restaurants.
The apartment to the host's living quarters, so they were close by and nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The hosts also run a day's wine tour in the Coonawarra Region, so we went out for the day with them. It was a a highly informative and enjoyable day.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the standard of the accomodation and the size of the suite. I am a big guy and hate pokey showers - this one was great! Good restaurants and hotel dining within easy walking distance. Owner was very helpful with information about local wineries and attractions. Very good value for money.
Fantastic cottage with all the amenities we could ask for and more. Lovely and cozy space that not only accepted but welcoming for dogs - had a great sized yard out front for our little one to stretch her legs in. Dee was an incredible host and we'd recommend anyone to stay when in the area.
Great place to stop on our way to Adelaide from Port Fairy; amazing spa bath; great parking; short walk to cafes and pub for a delicious dinner; easy access to Coonawarra wine region; nice small garden where we were able to sit and enjoy a glass of wine before the rain came through!
Super clean, comfortable and homey cottage. Location is superb, a few minutes walk to al things on the main street. Breakfast groceries provided by the host so we could cook ourselves brekky to start the day.
The nicest people run this place. Cabin was very comfortable and warm. Penola is a cold place and this place was toasty. Great beds. Nice pillows. Short walk to the pub. Would stay here again.
We stayed here several years ago and it is still a good place to stay in Penola. Unfortunately this time it was a bit too cold to enjoy the bbq and outside area which looked very inviting.
The location of the accommodation was ideal and within walking distance to the main street of Penola.
The breakfast supplied was excellent
The location was quiet and relaxing
Lovely little cottage located close to the main street of Penola. Very comfortable and our hostess Robyn was very helpful - the bottle of local wine was a nice touch.
Wonderful small and charming motel. Very large and clean rooms. Excellent location right next to a grocery store and walking distance to the few restaurants in town.
A great location in town, walking distance to the pubs, restaurant and cafe. Only a short drive to the excellent wineries of Coonawarra. Will stay hear again.
