Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.

This was a stop in a longer trip to Switzerland.
This was a stop in a longer trip to Switzerland. We were there as they were getting ready for the Jazz fest so there was alot of construction. We loved the Lavaux vineyard area and enjoyed the steam boat tour of the lake, and Chillion Castle as well. However if pressed for time on your first visit to Switzerland this is the area I would skip, but that is my personal preference.

I’ve known Montreux since childhood; it has always been one of my favourite places in the world, and it hasn’t lost its charm.
It has everything: the enchantment of Lac Leman, breathtaking Mountain View’s, old-world elegance and charm.
Plenty of activity or every season, a thriving arts scene, great shops and restaurants, and a wonderful laid-back atmosphere.

Amazing city full of contrasts parts are quiet and reflective with beautiful gardens along the lake side. On the other the hustle and bustle of a busy city with a plethora of bars and restaurants. Can be a bit pricey but we did find some excellent restaurants away from the front that were fab and reasonable. Great transport we used the free bus service (for those staying in montreaux). Would recommend the paddle streamer on the lake we took an amazing trip to Lausanne. Will be back to explore further.

It's a wonderful small town on the bord of Geneva lake where you can find peace, quiet, meditate and reflect as you wish to find your inner self. It's different from other swiss cities and once you were here might understand why Freddie loved it so much.

Montreux is a wonderful region that one can spend 3-4 days in easily. The lake side views are phenomenal. One can choose from multiple options such as visit vineyards around Vevey, take a train ride from Vevey to Laussane (regional one not the fast trains), explore Chillon castle, do a trip on golden express or glacier express, take a trip to Roches de Nayers and just relax and enjoy scenic beauty of the region. Highly recommended
It’s very close from the lake, so great walks, in 10 minutes you’re in the heart of Montreux.
There’s a bus stop literally in front of the hotel, which is free thanks to the Montreux Riviera Card, very practical when you need to go somewhere.
In the house there’s also a kitchen, well furnished, and a washing machine with a dryer.
A large choice of foods for breakfast, with some homemade cakes like tiramisu or cheesecakes !
Everything is really clean.
The host is also super nice and very helpful !
The location of this hotel is excellent if visiting for the Montreux Jazz Festival as the free bus is 4 minutes walk from the hotel and it's a 10 minute ride down to the heart of the event. All the staff were helpful and welcoming which added to the enjoyment of the stay. Breakfast was very modest but sufficient to start every day.
This is SUCH a beautiful hotel! We walked in and our jaws dropped. It's traditional, large but cosy and our room was gorgeous with stunning panoramic views over Montreux and lake Geneva. We were very well looked after. Breakfast was amazing!!! Would highly reccomend staying here if you're in town.
The hotel was better than expected. The view, the room, the location was perfect. The dining was closed so dining was not at its best. We have been to Montreux many times but the first time at your hotel. Will stay again when next in Montreux.
