Valparaiso is bohemian in a rough way, great to stroll around Cerro Alegre and concepcion for a couple of days. A constant smell of human urine and dog shit. ( not so bad in the 2 Cerros mentioned but the rest ....;(.....the lower part of the city is an example when a city is left to decay. The city has some lovely spots such as the terrace around Palacio Baburizza. I had dinner in Restorán Capri and Gran Sazón Nazca and the food was great. The major disadvantage are the safety issues. Rooms are a bit basic, but clean and comfortable. They do have limited parking available, but the parking garage is very tricky with a steep and narrow ramp. Would not recommend parking your car there, I almost did not get out. The neighbourhood is not the best in Valparaiso, but there is often police nearby.
