Good location, right next to bus line 1, which you can ride into the city for easy interchange to Metro and other busses. There are a few restaurants nearby, however I didn't find anything suited to my taste right away. Luckily, Shantang is not far away and by either taking the bus or a shared bicycle you can get there pretty quickly.

Tongli as one of the most famous Watertowns and usually worth a visit, is recommended to be avoided during Holiday times like Chinese New Year (as we chose) as a guessed 3 Million others have the same idea at the same day. All you will be able to see is black heads around you and your kids will keep an unforgettable butt-day in their memories as they’ll see nothing else than those… so better to have a well facilitated hotel and enjoy the time there instead…

Skip Tiger Hill and the Humble Administrator's Garden.
Skip Tiger Hill and the Humble Administrator's Garden. Instead, head to the North Temple Pagoda, Panmen Scenic Area and the Chongyuan Temple for the best sites in Suzhou.
If you like shopping, the mall under the Gate to the East building is great and is also full of restaurants.

Great City, with old antique areas and modern sites - vivid and harmonious at the same time
.... one of the jewels in China, for sure! Must go!
Don't miss out the ancient towns of Tongli, Zhouzhuang, Luzhi & Jinxi in the greater Suzhou area. Aside the ancient city center of Suzhou and the Pingang Jie area, They are all worth a visit of min. 1 day.

The biggest problem was when Google cut off and I couldn't use my phone except for WhatsApps only. It was frustrating.

Suzhou is the "Venice" of China.
Suzhou is the "Venice" of China. Like many places in China it has much history and beauty. Had we the time, a walk along one of the main canals would have been great. Suffice to say we took a "gondola" ride and yes, the "gondolier" sang (a little). Tiger Hill and the Humble Administrator's Garden is worth the visit.

For this trip, we split our time between going and seeing sights and taking it easy in and around the two hotels we stayed in. Suzhou turned out to be a good option on both counts.
If you want to get around, public transport, as in most large Chinese cities, is great and convenient. Even though it was National Week, most of the times we went out, it wasn't too crowded (which is saying something).
We didn't try to go to all of the gardens, water towns and sights, but had a good time at the ones we went to. In fact, based on our experience and what I've read from other reviews, I'd recommend picking one water town (we had a nice time and also enjoyed the show in Zhouzhuang) and one garden (I don't remember the name of the one we went to at the moment, but I think most are good and similar to each other), and at least go downtown to see the 'pants' building and walk along the lake to enjoy the lights and the city's skyline at night. I wanted to ride on the ferris wheel, but apparently that area was closed for remodeling or something while we were there.
I thought a dinner cruise might be nice, but we couldn't find one. However, there were quite a few good restaurants, western and local, that we enjoyed. Food-wise, at the very least you should try the húntún (馄饨), which are basically the Jiangsu variety of dumplings, available at many local restaurants, and can be ordered wet (in soup) or dry (not in soup).
Tastefully decorated loverly old house, reception staff were very friendly and could advise us places to eat. Their recommendation turned out to be great. The beds were comfortable. The staff (Gloria) went out of her way to pick up our luggage outside of the historical town to bring it in. She helped to book the passes to allow us into Tongli. When we informed her that the room was cold, she brought up good heater to help warm the room.
The location of the hotel is central in the old town, easy to walk every where.
Staff were lovely, helpful, friendly and spoke English too. They have a little dog who is very cute. The common area is full of boardgames and books and friendly travellers. Great place to meet people and a nice atmosphere. Amazing value best suited for solo travellers to Suzhou. Hot showers, and the beds are comfortable. Fantastic location as well, near to many shops and excellent restaurants, with markets down the lanes selling authentic Chinese products at discount rates. Great hostel experience overall.
I made the right decision to stay overnight and experience the romance of Tongli when most tourists have left.
The hotel is right in the centre of the scenic area , next to the Three Bridges.
The girl at the office was really great, friendly and very chatty. Gave us all needed information of both hotel, where to eat (I am vegan).
The hotel is more like a home, lovely setting, nice small pond with fish.
Bedroom had 2 very comfy double beds and big shower too.
Location is perfect. Can walk to Pingjiang road in less than 5 min yet quiet and peaceful especially in the morning we can hear birds chirping. Thanks to the very friendly staff especially 潘小姐 who helped us to handle our luggage and call ride-hailing. The boss is friendly but we don't have enough time to sit down and chat with him. Room is spacious and bed is very comfortable. Will recommend to friends and will come back again when I visit Suzhou next trip.
I loved staying at this guesthouse, already planning to come back again sometime. We stayed 3 nights. The guesthouse is in Tongli ancient town, which can get quite busy. But the guesthouse was on a totally quiet little road, just a few minutes walk from the action but safely hidden away when you want to escape. Spent a lot of time in the quiet hotel neighborhood drinking tea next to the canal and reading a book. Totally relaxing.
The room was spacious with a cozy bed and large bathroom, including a tub. The desk offered an excellent area to work supported by reliable WiFi. Breakfast was plentiful. There is a wide variety of Chinese breakfast items, pastries, and fresh fruit. There is easy access to a nearby temple, pagoda, and gardens. The Grand Canal area is within walking distance.
This is a great choice for a stay in Suzhou - the location is excellent, moments from the metro and in a lively area with plenty of places to eat, and not too far from the main attractions. My room was big and comfortable, although it looked out only on the inner atrium of the hotel. Breakfast was good too.
The location is great - walking distance to most of the key sites and very close to the metro. The vibe of the accommodation is perfect for suzhou. I'm really glad that I chose to stay here and would totally recommend especially if you're looking to have a more authentic experience.
The hotel is beautiful, the staff speaks English and there is complimentary breakfast (both Western and Chinese) and a breathtaking view over the city.
The room was spacious and had a kitchen, a bathtub, a mini refrigerator, very comfortable.
The staff was very helpful. The location was very convenient, close to the shopping mall and the subway. Breakfast was very delicious. Rooms were clean and comfortable. I liked the hotel, next time will stay there again.
Good breakfast. Staff very nice. We really appreciate Mr Yin, the hotel manager, assisted in arranging a connecting room for us. The staff at concierge are all very nice and helpful.
The hotel was absolutely beautiful and it was connected to Pan Men, so access to it was free for hotel guests. Location was central and walking distance to the Nan Men metro.
Great apartment with everything we needed and more! The shopping complex one which the hotel is located is connected to the metro via a long underground walkway.
