Absolutely superb. We arrived late from the ferry because of holdups at passport control. We were welcomed and was served a couple of pints. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and reasonable priced. The staff were excellent throughout.

room was amazing, building old and full of history
An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

We only stayed in the dock land area so did not see anything else of Portsmouth, but could have spent much more time here anyway! The historic dockyard with Warrior, Victory, Mary Rose and so much more is a simply superb experience. The Gunwharf Quays is now a shopping and restaurant haven. We ate at the Cozy Club which had excellent food and views across the harbor. We also walked around to the historic Round Tower/Square Tower area which has been restored. The very, very best place to go is the Still and West pub & restaurant on the point there. Amazing food, atmosphere, and ships constantly passing the windows. I would live in this pub! Everything we went to was walking distance, and the train and bus station was opposite our hotel should we have wanted to travel further afield.

My reason for going to Portsmouth was then Dockyard and Naval Museums, easily taking all of my few days exploring. HMS Warrior, HMS Victory, the Submarine visit, the many museums, the bay trip, the only downside was the long lines of people for all these magnificent examples of Britain's former naval power and the opportunity to clamber aboard and around. The whole dockyard area just reeks of history packed into every square foot both on-shore and in the bay.
A fabulous local bus network, superb shopping and many other museums. Along with it's share of pubs and restaurants for all pockets it was difficult to fit as much in as I did in just four days.
The only thing that I would want to avoid the next time is the rain.
The long line of to enter the docks, 45 minutes or an hour or more without any cover does mean you can get washed out if you haven't wrapped up warm and dry.

This city, historical home of Britain's Naval Base houses treasures you can't see anywhere else. HMS Victory, the ship Admiral Nelson died in battle is a sight to behold. Excellent audio helps with the tour. The HMS Mary Rose, the 14th century ship on display in an interpretive centre is fascinating. HMS Warrior, the biggest iron hulled warship in the world and other ships available for touring. Boat tours of the harbour or a ferry via the famous hovercraft to Isle of Wight. The D-Day Interpretive Centre and the last remaining craft that landed on the beaches of Normandy there to walk through. A coastal walk that is breathtaking. So, so much to discover and enjoy. We have to go back.

However the City is well worth a visit to see the Navel History

If you like history Portsmouth is great.
If you like history Portsmouth is great. We did not know about the hovercraft that went to the Isle of Wright which I wish we could of done. Spent only about 3/4 of a day at the Naval museum. Could easily spent 2 days.
Great little hotel right next to Portsmouth Harbour: convenient for rail, Isle of Wight ferry, Gunwharf Quays, and the historic Dockyard.
Good standard of cleanliness throughout, food was good quality and quantity at reasonable price, and the staff were excellent. Knows the market it is catering for and obviously very much a "Navy" establishment.
Travelling for business - even allowed me to park all day following check-out, which they didn't have to but was greatly appreciated. Will be booking to stay again.
We had the second floor suite at the front of the building facing the port, I was concerned that with the amount of traffic, buses, trains, boats and people it would be noisy. However the sound proofing was fine, no issues. Everything was clean and the décor of the room and the hotel generally was of a high standard. The full breakfast on offer in the morning was excellent.
Went by train from my home town in South Wales one change at Cardiff Central and then straight to Portsmouth Harbour Station (4 hours travel plus 1 hour wait in Cardiff), so would have been unhappy with additional travel.
The Hotel is directly opposite the train /bus station, so exit cross the road at the main pedestrian crossing point and straight through the hotel door.
Such an easy check in with the key box. The location is fantastic with street parking and the train station behind the property, making it easy to get to Portsmouth harbour, city centre or London in a hour if needed!
Comfortable beds, clean house and fabulous kitchen making it possible to cook your own food if you didn’t want to eat out.
Will be staying again!
We loved the hotel and the friendly staff our food was lovely our hotel was also close to all amenities to, easy walking distance and the people of Portsmouth very helpful and friendly we visited southsea as bus stop right outside hotel a very enjoyable holiday we are looking forward to returning next year
A nice hotel in a quiet location easily reached by local busses. It's a long way but you can walk it from Portsmouth Harbour. If so make sure you go via the magnificent Gunwharf Quays and coastline.
Steve was very helpful and welcoming.
A nice clean comfy bed. Good value for money.
Exceptionally well decorated and clean rooms with en-suite at just £55/night. Friendly staff (who just completed his degree and was very positive about the family business and life- was a real booster on a cold wet and late evening). This hotel just reflected that positivity.
Staff were very pleasant. The check in / out process was very simple. Breakfast was good but very busy and seating was somewhat limited. Parked in Gunwharf Quays which was heavily discounted (free for 24 hrs) with car parking ticket validated by hotel - excellent!
The house was absolutely beautiful as well as historical. We loved the space, the comfort, and the proximity to the seafront and Historic Dockyard. Steve was so helpful, accommodating our late arrival and providing us with resources on the history of Portsmouth.
Pretty central and close to Portsmouth Harbour train station. Close to entertainment area Gun Wharf and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, all within a few minutes walk. A small hotel above a pub, with good pub food. Room rate was reasonable for this time of year.
Very well situated hotel, just a few minutes walk from the seafront, Old Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays and with a bus stop round the corner with frequent buses to both stations and city centre. Comfortable room and good service at breakfast and dinner.
Location very good. Benefit of parking on site. Short walk to sea front, pier and buses to Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays and historic dockyard. Boating lake/park opposite.
Cooked breakfast at hotel very good, fresh, hot and plentiful. Spacious room.
Sam was wonderful, the staff were accommodating and helpful.
The hotel is in need of upgrades, decorating, it is very “tired” in appearance. For me the location was great. The lighting in the bathroom is very poor, too dark to see to shave!
Such a beautiful Victoria hotel! Loved the ambiance. The breakfast was excellent. The location was perfect for us as we needed to be close to Emsworth and Havant. Easy to gt to Isle of Wight as well
Very good location - 10min walk to the Gunwharf Quays and dockyard. 2min walk to city centre and some bars.
Hotel was clean and modern. Nice selection of drinks at bar and very relaxed
A stop over for 1 night before sailing to the IOW. Lovely hotel, only 10 minutes or so from Portsmouth Harbour. Plenty of places to eat in and around the hotel. Staff were friendly.
