Marston Hall is an ancient family home which should appeal to anyone interested in history or those wanting to experience staying in one of the oldest domestic buildings in the country. It is not a hotel but the owners, John and Liz Thorold are there to welcome you as if you are their private guests. There are several good local pubs for dinner, including The Thorold in the village, The Stag at Barkston (2 miles) or The Brownlow Arms at Hough on the Hill (3.5 miles). As they only let one of the bedrooms, there will be no other guests so you will have sole use of the magnificent Great Hall with a fire in the huge fireplace. A delicious breakfast will be served in the lovely red dining room at what ever time suits you.
A warm welcome awaits you at the Hall and Liz and John are happy to chat with their guests - or not! Their particular interests including aviation, cooking, art, travel and many other things besides.
There are many interesting places to visit within easy reach of Marston. Belton House is only about 3 miles away and you can achieve a look at the Magna Carta in Lincoln (40 mins) and a visit to Isaac Newton"s house at Woolsthorpe (20 mins) on the same day. Of course, Lincoln also has its spectacular Cathedral, Castle and several good museums. Southwell Minster (40 mins) is also well worth a visit, as is the attractive Medieval town of Stamford - and Burghley House (35 mins). The Lincolnshire Wolds are unknown to many but are an unspoilt part of England with many pretty villages and churches of interest.
