Settle and Carlisle Railway Trust is run by volunteers and is responsible for maintaining four station properties along the Settle Carlisle line. It runs the holiday lets in Kirkby Stephen and Ribblehead to generate the funds to maintain the properties. Built in 1875, the station at Kirkby Stephen was restored in 2005 and Station Office Cottage shares the station building with Platform and Booking Office Cottages. It offers excellent self-catering accommodation for up to 2 guests in the beautiful and un-spoilt Upper Eden Valley of Cumbria. It provides a great base for walking, cycling, and exploring. The area is rich in heritage, including the Ribblehead Viaduct shanty town and construction sites and it's only 15 minutes by the train on the doorstop, to the vibrant market town of Settle. Passing trains include passenger, steam-hauled excursions and diesel-hauled freight trains with up to 7 passenger trains each way on weekdays and Saturdays and three on a Sunday. This is a working station on a mainline railway and with this in mind, we regret that it is not suitable for children under 7.

The local area is rich in landscapes, settlements, heritage and attractions. Kirkby Stephen is a small town nestled at the top of the beautiful Eden Valley. It has a range of small shops, including antiques and collectable shops, galleries, grocers, bakers, florest, a supermarket and post office.
