We promise warm hospitality in two beautiful bedrooms, each with its own spacious en suite shower room - and a great breakfast to wake up to! We're on an elegant, residential stretch of Uppingham's historic High Street, a minute's walk from all its amenities and a short stroll from beautiful open countryside. We offer two rooms on the second floor of our Victorian townhouse. One has a king size bed and an ensuite shower room. The second, overlooking our garden, has a double bed and en suite shower room. Both have best, pure cotton bedlinens - with hypoallergenic options and neck support pillows if needed. Tea and coffee making facilities are in your room. Wifi is excellent and free. Our breakfasts are cooked on our Aga and are generous, always including homemade granola, compotes, fresh fruits and jams. Bread and pastries are from our local bakers. We are happy to offer options to suit your dietary needs and, with a little notice, to cook supper for you or to provide a packed lunch.
My husband Bill and I came from a background in media - magazines, music and film. I love to share my enthusiasm for the creative arts and for this beautiful county I've called home for many years. So I hope you'll feel at home enough to join me for a chat in the kitchen, or to curl up with our maps and guide books by the fire in the lovely sitting room. The pretty courtyard garden is also at your disposal - hopefully for sunny breakfasts! - or to enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine. We can collect guests from our local railway stations - Corby and Kettering are closest if travelling from London or from the north; Stamford or Oakham if travelling east-west across the country - and can drive you to an event. We'll sometimes charge a small fee (we'll tell you beforehand), depending on the distance.
Uppingham is a gem of a friendly little market town - there's a traditional market in the Square every Friday - with a wealth of unique and interesting shops and galleries. It's a ten minute drive from Oakham, Rutland's county town which boasts a fascinating Castle - and more great independent shops. A 20 minute drive will bring you to Stamford with its stunning architecture - home to many TV period drama shoots including Pride and Prejudice and Middlemarch - and magnificent Burghley House with its International Horse Trials. We are also only a ten minute drive from the south shore of Rutland Water, Europe's largest manmade lake, where you can sail, fish, take a boat trip on the Rutland Belle or enjoy an unsurpassed variety of birdlife - including the famous ospreys. The British Birdwatching Fair takes place here each August. Also close by: Uppingham, Oakham and Oundle Schools, Goldmark Gallery, Barnsdale Gardens, Rockingham Castle, Rockingham Speedway, Oakham and Melton Mowbray Food Festivals. Not too far: Leicester and de Montfort Universities, National Space Centre, Leicester Tigers Rugby, Belton House, Newark Antiques and Collectors Fair
