FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodation choices on Booking.com.

Lovely place to visit, but beware if you're driving yourself. Terrible road markings, terrible parking systems, machines and availability, like the Council is just waiting to penalise. Hidden ticket machine at station for eg, faded bus lanes marking, deliberately designed to extract fines

The established is what it says, room only which is fine for its central location to the city. Following a room mixup it was difficult to communicate with owner as they are not present and the only means was by telephone , once I had found the number to ring. It’s a shame they didn’t offer an apology for the mixup which would have gone a long way.

    So MUCH history!

So MUCH history! Be prepared to do a lot of walking, if you want to see the good stuff. The center is an old medieval town, so driving is impossible in much of it. The day we walked all around, it RAINED but it was still wonderful. Be prepared to spend money. Entrance fees to historic places help with their upkeep, but it adds up. (See Kings College Chapel - completed by HenryVIII.) Many good food places available, especially this one. (www.michaelhousecafe.com) Oldest college chapel in Cambridge. Now a great cafe AND a chapel where services are still held.

This was a nostalgia trip for us as we had both studied in Cambridge a long time ago. The town was very crowded with tourist guides and groups but apart from that it is easy to get around. There are plentiful cafes and pubs (the only one of the latter we entered was very full!). WE enjoyed seeing the colleges and other sites of interest.

Great Breakfast selection, helpful staff, good size room and great shower. Next to the train station (10mins Cambridge) every 30mins. Car Park 7.50 a day - cheaper on the train station if at a weekend. Pub opposite closed at weekends but a small Bar in the Hotel. Pizza and Curry available in the evening. 25 Min walk to the Tickle Arms in the next village - worth the walk - great Drinks,Food and Service.

Lovely boutique hotel close to the centre of Cambridge. I am very fond of this place, which I have visited frequently during the last ten years. The reception staff are unfailingly wonderful and the rooms are comfortable, albeit on some occasions small for this quality of hotel. Subject to my comments below, breakfast is good. I have never stayed for dinner.

Hotel was great but location was a nightmare in terms of accessing Cambridge. Next time I'd pay more and stay in city centre as traffic is so heavy. Was seriously late for business meeting. If you're not operating to a tight schedule the Ramada is a great value for money. Bed is super comfy.
