The Inspiration for Genius
Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.
Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!
Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.
Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

The established is what it says, room only which is fine for its central location to the city. Following a room mixup it was difficult to communicate with owner as they are not present and the only means was by telephone , once I had found the number to ring. So MUCH history!
So MUCH history! Be prepared to do a lot of walking, if you want to see the good stuff. The center is an old medieval town, so driving is impossible in much of it. The day we walked all around, it RAINED but it was still wonderful. Be prepared to spend money. Entrance fees to historic places help with their upkeep, but it adds up. This was a nostalgia trip for us as we had both studied in Cambridge a long time ago. The town was very crowded with tourist guides and groups but apart from that it is easy to get around.
