FAQs about hotels in Sanremo

Riviera Resort for High Rollers

Covering gentle hills overlooked by higher peaks, Sanremo is a sophisticated Italian Riviera town with a glamorous casino. Built in 1905, this Liberty-style building hosts rounds of the Italian and European Poker Tours.

Down the road are the colourful minarets of San Basilio Russian Orthodox Church, while in the opposite direction is the Ariston Theatre, home of the Sanremo Music Festival – Italy’s biggest musical contest.

Nearby Piazza Colombo is a large square enlivened with vibrant flowers. Sanremo (or San Remo) is known as the City of Flowers and has the Mediterranean’s most important flower market. The surrounding area also produces olive oil, and fine examples can be purchased in shops of hillside La Pigna, the medieval part of town accessible only by stone steps.

Atop the hill, the Regina Elena Gardens provide lovely views down to the sandy beach and yacht-lined marina. Whale watching and diving trips depart from the harbour, and a few streets away is Villa Nobel, where Alfred Nobel died. A cycle path runs nearby and continues along the Ligurian coast all the way to Genoa, following the route of the old train tracks.

The modern tracks are underground and the train station is surrounded by the Sanremo accommodation on Booking.com, ranging from cheap apartments and guest houses to 5-star hotels.

    The perfect city!

The perfect city! Small enough to discover in its entirety, large enough to keep you busy and interested in all its beauty. Music is abundant everywhere in Sanremo. There is no bad food or drink. Excellent value too. A really warm character.

We stayed in Sanremo for 5 days.

We stayed in Sanremo for 5 days. Lovely city, easy to access by car with lots of parking spaces. Lots of sites worth visiting and nice city centre with plenty of shopping opportunities. Around Sanremo many worthwhile places to visit: take the train to Ventimiglia with its large Friday market (very busy) or go by car to the sleepy former ghost town Bussana vecchia and Dolcheacqua, an absolute gem. East part of the French Riviera is close by.

Sanremo is a lovely part of Italy.

Sanremo is a lovely part of Italy. The town has all the charm of the old town and modern part has all facilities you expect. The coastline is wonderful. The Casino isn’t quite as impressive inside, however take identification with you to access the main casino areas. Lots to see and do, many great places to eat. We will use the flixbus to and from Nice airport as trains are overcrowded and requires changes The bus service is very good

We visited Sanremo on the way from Spain.

We visited Sanremo on the way from Spain. We knew about this city as its name is really famous to us and so we were a little bit surprised that there weren´t that many turists (which of course was pleasant). The city itself was really nice - small streets old town, the harbour, all the little shops, restaurants and bars. We also appreciated very much the cyklo route that stretches far in both directions alongside the coast from the city (magnificent views of the sea, very nice surroundings). What really amazed us was all the lush flora in the city and its surroundings. We wish we had at least one more day for the visit.

    We feel mixed.

We feel mixed. I can say a lot of nice things about the smell of flowers in the air, the lushness of the gardens and parks, the pastel colored villas, and we loved our hotel Villa Sylva & Spa. We ate very well at La Porta Verde and at La Baccara Bello Bistro. And we enjoyed running along the path for cyclists/runners/walking. But Sanremo's old town is not preserved like the ancient centers of some other towns that we visited on the French side like Antibes and Menton. (I realize there was a devastating earthquake in Sanremo in the 1880s) And Sanremo is filled with downmarket apartment buildings built in that unfortunate age (was it 50s? not sure). And there are plenty of downmarket looking commercial buildings in the center. I also didn't find the beach or port right in town pretty or charming. We enjoyed it. But those tourist magazine photos were shot and edited carefully, blocking out some unsightly stuff. Then again, more laid back, less chaotic than other riviera towns maybe? And we loved that we heard so little English, and encountered mostly Italian people and friendly at that.

Nice place, not as refined as I thought it might be but...

Nice place, not as refined as I thought it might be but there is mix of cheap eateries to classy type restaurants. I recommend a bike ride or long walk up to Ospedaletti which is very peaceful. There is a popularity to cycle to San Lorenzo, but unless you like cycling it is not a must. I had wanted to go to Nice, but train times were a bit restrictive in giving me more than 5/6 hours there. People who work in Sanremo in tourist industry very stern and blunt.

The apartment is really well equipped and comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are many restaurants so close by, as is the beach and cycle/walking path along the coast. Despite being so close to restaurants and bars the apartment is really peaceful due to the soundproofing. Raffealla couldn’t have been more helpful and it was great to leave our hire car in the garage. Staying here is ideal to explore San Remo, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
