The facility was very clean, the receptionist Katie was amazing, very attentive and polite.. She was also our server for breakfast and she did a great job. Beds had better days ,the hotel definitely needs new beds and pillows and the AC needs replacing also. I think that the place has potential it just needs more tlc. The place has a beautiful pool and a beautiful beach. Sunset was stunning.

What Guests Said About Isla Grande:

It should be called Isla Grande de Basura.

It should be called Isla Grande de Basura. It's off-putting to have breakfast on the wharf and watch the trash float by. The "beach" & sidewalk that goes the length of the island is lined with trash: cans, bottles, styrofoam, paper wrappers, candy wrappers, etc. Making the slightest request of the Cocotal staff was met with a glance of contempt. The room had only one chair, no table, the shower was nothing more than a dribble; and there was no hot water. Everyone on the island seems to be hard of hearing as the ghetto blasters were at full volume. The parking over on the mainland is run by extortionists. We agreed to pay for two nights parking, when we went to pick up our van they insisted that we pay for a third night and they locked us in the parking area until we called the police!

Many of the restaurants and hotels on the island was closed...

Many of the restaurants and hotels on the island was closed when we were there (around christmas). Also it was very much trash on the street and everywhere around the hotel. We went there with the intention to surf a bit but there was no board rentals and the break did not look good at all. The beach was very nice but a lot of trash as soon as you left the hotel areas. One night or a day trip would have been enough. The restaurant La Isla was amazing, fast service, great food, nice location.

Small island community. It’s better to go on the weekends.

Small island community. It’s better to go on the weekends. We went Wednesday through Friday and many of the restaurants were closed. Definitely take a boat tour to go see the tunnel of love and Isla Mamey. Bring food with you- especially fruit- as the bodega small and limited. We ate at Cafe Muro, which had good coconut rice and fish.
