Is a small cute little bedroom, the island is small wich makes the architecture small too. The room had a coffe machine, hair dryer, robes, shampoo and conditioner , bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, the view is amazing. Is 2 blocks away from the casino and 2 blocks away from the city. 100% recommended.

I loved the calm relaxing vibe. It felt like a quaint sea side village from the past. Everything was very clean and the walking on the beach frontage or the walk to the casino were very pleasant for us seniors. I also saw young families with small children which appeared to be ideal for that phase of family life because the beach is so close. I hadn't been to Avalon for over 20 years and was extremely happy with the way it has evolved and the pleasant atmosphere. Enjoyed it very much, but if I come back with my young adult grand daughters, they would probably want to do more of the activities which are available.

Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving.
Our observation of Avilon is that is evolving. There are more small cars. The businesses seem to be sustainable and pretty much thriving, and all is a positive experience.
Catalina is a mere 27-30 miles from where we live in So CA, but it could be HI, South of France or Southern Italy.
I think, just go there with the intent of slowing down and enjoying slower time and removing yourself from the balance of hectic life elsewhere. It is a good place to relax.

We visited at start of January (still school holidays) and found reduced restaurant and shop options. Restaurants tended to close early.
Easy 1hour comfortable ferry crossing to island with Catalina Express from Long Beach. Saw dolphins en route.
Just few minutes walk to main town, shops, restaurants and many hotels from ferry terminal.
Plenty of walks, but hilly. Fabulous views & plants/wildlife. Mostly golf carts or bikes and limited cars/local mini bus to get around.
Easy access to public restrooms around Avalon.
Would visit spring onwards for future visit.

Avalon can be magical to visit for a couple of days. Lots of activities, food options, and shopping. It's charming and beautiful. The M restaurant is one of my favorites, with good breakfast and lunch options. At dinner, it's a good Italian restaurant.

I loved being just a few yards from the water, restaurants and shopping. The whole area - in spite of the cloudy weather - is simply beautiful and picturesque. We enjoyed both walking and biking through the hills nearby. Avalon is my new "go to" spot for relaxing!!
The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of downtown so it was super easy to get to off the ferry. It is above a few shops but we had no issues with noise. It is right next to all of the best restaurants (I highly recommend Lobster trap). The room is small but cozy -its not like you are there to spend time in the room anyway. Recently updated bathroom was nice. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and they had flowers waiting in the room. Super friendly staff- highly recommend.
We absolutely loved this beautiful property. The location
is gorgeous and it was so relaxing to sit on the balcony
and enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of Catalina Island.
The kids had a blast playing Connect4- the hosts clearly have gone out of their
way to make sure that kids and adults enjoy their stay.
Everything was very clean and comfortable. it was
great to have a kitchen and laundry area available-
made our lives very easy! we can’t wait to stay here again.
The location is not too far out of the way to be inconvenient. It’s a short walk from the main streets of Catalina. I am not yet elderly so I did enjoy the steep walk back, but I could see how it might inconvenience other guests. The beers and micheladas at the hotel bar were well priced and delicious. All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I even saw a deer eating from a tree right outside the hotel. Very beautiful atmosphere.
When I initially booked the room for the weekend of the Catalina Marathon, I was just trying to find a convenient room that could act as a decent meeting spot for family that was running in the event. Much to my surprise, I checked in and was treated to Suite 1 which was far more than I was expecting. The view from the balcony was amazing, and the little kitchenette ended up being perfect for the couple days I was on Avalon.
A shuttle picked us up at the ferry and drove us up the steep hill to the hotel. The same shuttle was available throughout our stay to take us to and from town. The room had a fabulous view looking down on Catalina Harbor and a lovely terrace. The beds were comfortable and had high quality linens. The bathroom was very large and exceptionally nice with an enclosed shower stall separate from the bathtub.
Nice room with a « jacuzzi bath tub », plenty of good coffee, and access to a very well equipped roof top with a nice view on Avalon, the mountains and the sea. I appreciated the watermelon welcome, to be able to check in early and to leave my luggage the day of my departure, as well as enjoying the roof top while waiting for my late ferry. Definitely a place I will go back to.
I recently had a delightful stay at Catalina Island. Allison, the property manager, made our experience exceptional. Her warm greeting at the pier and assistance in getting to the condo set a positive tone. She even sang Happy birthday to my daughter upon our arrival. The complimentary golf cart added a fun touch, and the condo’s proximity to the beach was convenient.
We visited Catalina Island for our honeymoon, and the Zane Grey could not have made our experience any more perfect. They offered private transportation to and from town, a delicious daily breakfast, and the staff were all exceptional. The views from the Zane Grey rooftop were absolutely breathtaking - we enjoyed our breakfast up there each morning.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helped me check in quickly after a long hike across the island via the Trans Catalina Trail. The room was cozy, clean and comfortable - the perfect space for a solo traveler to relax and unwind.
Loved the facility. Avalon was quite sold out for the 2 days we booked about 9 days before.
Thought we were being overcharged but we were very pleased. Catalina has improved so much since the early 90s when I was last there.
Friendly staff who gave good advice on local restaurants. A very nice hotel to spend time in - each floor had a well furnished balcony to relax and look out to sea. Good size bedroom with comfy bed and good shower.
We had a great stay at hotel catalina!! Everything was perfect for a budget place to stay on the island…and so convenient to town. Would definitely stay here again :)
Fabulous hotel and very helpful staff, lovely room and fab location - the coffee and home made breakfast pastries are delicious - we are booked to return in July!
A hidden gem on Catalina Island! Breakfast, wine and cheese night, and mimosa Saturdays are included in the experience! My husband and I felt safe and at home :)
