Nice, but we stopped at a restaurant across from the open air market, after we ordered my husband got sick and we told the waiter to cancel it because we had to leave he said ok and told us to sit down until he felt better, but my husband felt to sick, as we we’re leaving the owner came running out with the check and wanted us to pay for the meal,so I said we didn’t eat or drink anything,he said we had to pay for the preparation, I gave it back to him and said I wasn’t paying for something we didn’t have he kept insisting so I threw the check at him and walked out. It’s a sin to say your own kind would do that.
Public executions took place in this square between 16th and 17th century..in my opinion the most important one was execution of italian philosopher Giordano Bruno. They cut his tongue first and burn him to death for heresy. His last words before the execution was ; “Maybe you who condemn me are in greater fear than I who am condemned.” His thoughts still enlighten our century..speak out the truth remember Giordano..
We walked across the bridge from Trastevere to camp de" footie. I was disappointed as we had visited years ago and now found it very touristie and without that feeling of a genuine neighbourhood that existed the last time.Dont know if the flower/good market still exists there. We passed by around 7.00pm and there were only the restaurant scouts calling out to passers by to have a drink or meal in the overpriced tourist restaurants.
Just awesome, for fresh fruit and vegetables and food, in general. In the same area, there are many little hidden gems of restaurants and little cafes, not known to us tourists. Just explore a little off the tourist areas and you will find them.
Go on a market day. Great bit of street theatre if you are a tourist, but I suspect that locals go elsewhere. Don't be taken in by the jars of truffles, they are on sale for a lot less in supermarkets. Good cafes surround the square and takeaway Pizza to stand and eat whilst you watch the square.
po di fiori used to be a delightful old square with lots of Roman character. Now Asian street sellers assault you from all sides and it’s not possible to browse through the fruit and vegetable market like before. Old trattorias have been replaced by ugly modern bars. I was very disappointed.
Campo de' Fiori is a great place for good restaurants out side of the old city touristic places.
