The gardens are gorgeous. The staff on reception, Gian and a lovely young woman whose name I didn’t get, were superb - welcoming & knowledgeable about Locarno. I was early, and Gian phoned me when my room was ready. The views were superb - it’s worth paying for a lakeside balcony room, although a tad exie. The breakfast was generous with a wide selection, even for vegetarians - a bonus was the outdoor terrace. The steam room and sauna were very well appointed. The jacuzzis had a wonderful aspect with views over the lake, although I found them overly chlorinated - certainly not a negative, but personal preference. It was a short walk to the ferries. Make sure you ask for the Ticino visitors pass - free buses & trains within the Canton & some limited ferry services and good discounts on the the funicular to the Madonna del Sasso sanctuary (you can walk up and/or down - many steep stairs - I walked down) and the adjoining cable car/chair lift to Alpe Cardada/Cimetta, both of which I recommend. Fabulous view to Monte Rosa and some good hiking. Lake swimming is accessible almost right in front of the hotel - the water clarity is wonderful and many species of water birds. The old town around the Piazza Grande was a treat as well, although it was very hot and they were setting up for a music festival.Guest review byElizabethAustralia

I think Locarno is going to be one of the new tourist...
I think Locarno is going to be one of the new tourist hotspots in the next decade. This spot is beautiful. Amazing lakeside retreat on the alps - the views are not comparable to anything I have ever seen. I loved that it was less crowded than most lakeside European cities I have been to - and think this is a great stop if you are in the Como/Milan area. 10/10 recommend for some relaxation, rejuvenation, and a vacation you won't forget.Guest review byDodd - 10.0

Ascona is really beautiful and has lots of options for travelers, especially in the summer months. Visitors can walk around the city and see museums (the Museo Comunale d'Arte Moderna and Museo San Materno have really excellent collections!), listen to music and have a meal or a drink at any number of places in the main piazza, hang out at the bagno pubblico or lido, or take a short but to Locarno. I stayed during the Locarno Film Festival and really enjoyed how relaxed Ascona felt and less busy compared to Locarno during this particular period. Losone is the underrated, non-touristy part of Ascona and Locarno. It is, therefore, where many residents live because it is quiet, with great access to the Maggia river. The best tip is to walk along the river. It is very well connected by bus, so if you want an area that is safe but above all affordable, then this is the area to stay. Ascona is expensive for what is literally a 5 minute bus ride away. Probably the best place to explore the Ticino area. There are many sights in Lucarno and others are within 30 minutes by car (Bellinzona, Ascona, Isole di Brissago, Valle Verzasca). Those who like the Alps are 50 minutes away by cable car to Robieia, where they can spend the whole day in the area of high mountain lakes. Beautiful lakeside location with largely pedestrianized tourist area in old town. Amazing lakeside lido with excellent indoor and outdoor pools, slides and diving boards. Losone is a good place to explore valleys like Maggia, Verzasca, Onsernone, Bavona, Centovalli etc. for hiking, taking a bath in one of the rivers, pools, waterfalls. Also a lot and good Grottos to eat nearby Casa Kosamui.
