Noël, the owner, is an excellent host. He was so helpful and attentive. I only stayed one night. The room was comfortable and extremely clean. The hotel is centrally located; close to many restaurants and shops. Really ideal. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty to choose from. There is a large courtyard to sit, eat and relax. Excellent value.

the location for Mont V. is fantastic, but that does not compare with the kind staff. Richard went above and beyond making our 2 night stay exceptional. Short story, we rode for 3 hours up and down the Giant of Provence, but wanted Pizza. Unfortunately there were no Taxis in the area, so Richard drove us to Bedouin and even picked us up. We had a great evening and big breakfast the next morning to ride into Rousillon. We have talked about cycling Mont Ventoux, but staying in a great place that made us feel welcome makes our adventure that much special.

Vaucluse Highlights

Eating Cavaillon melon

Paintings, statues and an annual festival pay homage to Cavaillon's juicy, honey-sweet cantaloupes – where better to tuck into this aromatic fruit?

Avignon Bridge

Celebrated in song as the Pont D’Avignon, this iconic UNESCO-listed bridge has been reaching out into the River Rhône for around 800 years.

Climbing Mont Ventoux

Looming above the surrounding countryside, the Giant of Provence is a demanding hike – and one of the Tour de France’s most gruelling climbs.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines

Take a vineyard tour to sample the full-bodied red wines which put the historic village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the map.

Le Palais des Papes

A Medieval masterpiece of vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches, the vast Papal Palace was once home to the Avignon popes.

Gordes

An imposing Medieval castle oversees this charming village’s white stone houses, while its narrow cobbled streets hide centuries-old underground passages.

L'isle sur la Sorgue

The branching River Sorgue embraces this island town’s scenic streets, with mossy waterwheels and antiques fairs waiting around every corner.

Sault Lavander Festival

Sault’s August lavender festival is a fragrant delight, with locals harvesting flowers and selling wild lavender honey to the sound of Provençal folk music.

Rousillon Ochre Trail

This hiking trail meanders through a rust-red landscape shaped by man and nature, passing sandstone spires and a former ochre quarry.

If you like medieval villages, history and stunning...

If you like medieval villages, history and stunning architecture, you will love Avignon. The city is beautiful, good food abounds, and the train station allows quick access to many surrounding towns. Trips to beautiful L'Isle sur la Sorgue, Arles, and other Provencal towns are easy to plan and get to. For those traveling without a car, I highly recommend a guided tour to some of the outlying areas where you can get a fill of Roman ruins and stunning scenes/villages. Hard to list one favorite, but tiny Le Beaux was breathtaking.

I drove down from the Marne valley and this was as far as I wanted to drive in one day! Orange is a delightful little town with Roman theatre the main attraction, but I used it as a base to visit Mont Ventoux (Tom Simpson memorial), Avignon, Arles, Camargue and Pont du Gard - all easily reached by car. Quieter than the main Provence towns but with nice restaurants and cafes so was very happy with it as a base for 3 days. Favourite lunch spot was the Brasserie du Mule du Pape in Chateauneuf du Pape.

There was an extremely high cost to use the pool and spa. This was not evident when booking. Also a ridiculously $$$ amount for vandalism tax which is refundable but an extreme measure since the hotel is not even in the city of Avignon. But still there is a city tax. On the plus side there were options for dining out not far from the hotel.

Perfect place to explore Provence, it's right in the middle.

Perfect place to explore Provence, it's right in the middle. In the town you will find the basics: supermarket, some restaurants, others. The old towncenter is nice, and late afternoon (not on marketday) we found good parking facilities. Tip: google maps doesn't know that some streets in the old town are closed and it navigates inside impossible places. It's better to park next to the river and walk 3 minutes to the center.

Pertuis is an unglamorous, normal, quite large village located not far from interstate A51, the vertical highway that divides the eastern and western halves of inland Provence. From Pertuis, it was easy to get to both our westernmost destinations (i.e., Avignon) and our easternmost destinations (i.e., the Gorges du Verdon), as well as to Aix-en-Provence to the south, yet the village was completely non-touristy. I would definitely stay there again.

The city of Avignon, a legendary city, disappointed me with its state. The surrounding area was filled with fords, dilapidated, neglected houses, and facades. Homeless people, etc. The condition of churches and sacred buildings reflects the effects of the genocidal French Revolution in the 1790s. Church furnishings were destroyed, graves desecrated, and numerous priests and nobles murdered. Barbarism was utterly utter.
