Leeds is a lovely cultural place, with plenty to see and do.
Leeds is a lovely cultural place, with plenty to see and do. Its central to other towns like York and Waterfalls and country hikes. Just be aware if driving through Leeds trying to find a carpark, there isn't any signs for parking, we had to Google and on our return home, I was issued with 2 fines for driving in a street that's just for buses twice! Wakefield is the perfect place to stay while exploring Yorkshire, with great transport links and all the modern conveniences in a walkable town centre. People are friendly and helpful and there is always something to do or see in Wakefield, including great nights out and two wonderful art galleries. Leeds and Bradford within easy reach, as are two national parks, York for a day trip and many other destinations. It's a transport hub, so you could even leave the car at home. As a base, there is a real range of restaurants available as well as leisure activities and a famous night life. Huddersfield doesn't have the best of reputations, which is a pity. I think that it's an absolute gem. The buildings are gorgeous, particularly to one who looks, such detail and reference to the industrial past. From the entrance steps to the railway station, one can see a lion and a prime minister. We have been to Ilkley previously, so were already enamoured of the town. The park beside the River Calder offers plenty of space for families, and a very good and popular children's playground. There are riverside walks of varying lengths, a picturesque old bridge (now pedestrian-only), and longer walks through woodland and a community orchard. Dog walkers love it, and there are many bins on the south side of the river for use by responsible dog owners. The town itself is a little gem, with a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants, a small but lively market, a bandstand featuring music on market days, an ancient church and Manor House (now a museum) a railway terminus with frequent trains to Leeds, and a backdrop of the towerinf hillside of Ilkley Moor to challenge walkers for whom the riverside is too tame! There is a regular programme of events, a cinema and a theatre, plus it's within a short distance of other attractive towns and venues. Haworth is a beautiful magical village in West Yorkshire. I have been twice now and would definitely return. My partner and I love this place. It is very popular and attracts international/national tourists as well as local people. This place is a must for anyone. It is so picturesque and the people are very friendly. There is so much to do and see. It is popular due to it's history of the famous Bronte sisters, cobbled streets, steam train, quirky shops and old country pubs. Everything close together, didn't have to walk far to be where you wanted to be. People are really friendly and we got to know some locals. Most people there love dogs and will stop you, so they can say hello to your dog. Beautiful buildings and trees everywhere. Loads of places to eat and drink. We loved the wrinkled stocking cafe, breakfast was amazing! The Holmfirth Tavern have food offers on a Monday and Wednesday, we had the steak for £10 each which was lovely. Holmfirth coffee shop, (near the Co-Op) lovely food, coffee and cakes! We met a local called Ken in there, he was such a lovely man and we bumped into him a few times afterwards in the town. The Archive, also did great coffees. Market on a Thursday in the Co-op car park and sells fresh fruit, only on in the morning though, we got there too late. The hotel is not for from the M62 North or South it is just off junction 25 & its takes me about 10 minutes to Odsal Stadium in Bradford that is why I use this hotel every time I do this trip. The cheapest hotel you will find in the area & very good value for the money you will spend & I would recomend this hotel of anyone wanted to stay in the area for 1 night or the weekend, might be a bit dearer for the weekend as I would not no what that would be as I only stay for a Saturday night only.
