We stayed in Nea Chora with the apartment right on the beacghfront which was ideal for a 20 minute walk to the Old Town. Buses there thogh were few and far between and we didn't seem to crack their routes or schedules. Taxis (when you could get one) were relatively cheap and we found everyone polite and helpful and the area not swarming with foreign tourist. We heard mainly Greek everywhere.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

It's an amazing trip experience that combines both the sea side stuff and the full comfort of a city. You can find small beaches along the shore, and a large embankment right across the venetian port that is perfect for evening walks (it has approx.. 2,4 km in length). There are also a lot of restaurants and bars you can hop into. I would dearly recommend Peskesi, Petousis, Sir Papafigos, Parasties for food, Take five or Toucan Skybar for drinks, but there are a lot more that are waiting to be discovered. Also the museums are a must, and of course the nearby site of Knossos. Another close by attraction you shouldn't miss is the Cretaquarium.Guest review byConstantinRomania - 10.0
Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site.
Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site. Staff are amazing. Also one of the best mani/pedi I ever had at the salon. Resort is about 30 minutes from airport, and would say for a 5* Europe resort, this lives up to expectation, but don't compare to a 5* Caribbean or Mexico Resort, so bear that in mind. We stayed at the Ocean view room which had spectacular views. The Rocky beach was just fantastic with the lounges and beds, and considering how busy this resort is, never noticed it and never felt overcrowded, and you never had to reserve benches or lounges by the beach or pool, there was more than enough to go round and even more spare. A la Carte restaurants that were amazing and my favourites are Umi (Sushi), Azzuro (Italian), Thalassa for breakfast & lunch, Poseidon. A real let down of the restaurants was Nami, only delicious items were the Starters. Staff at this resort were fantastic overall, but special thanks to the following: Anastasi, Konstantina, Angelina, Ritsa and Lucas.Guest review byBandeleUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Rethymno is a vibrant small town, with scenic remnants of a multicultural past and a bunch of restaurants with plenty of choices. Although I do not enjoy much going to the beach, a great one could be found in the east of the city. The fortress is a must go, as are the old town and the mini (yet quite inclusive) archaeological museum, that manages to summarize key aspects of the town's history. For the well informed and culturally aware visitor, exploring and discovering signs and relics indicative of a multiplexed past comprising of ottoman, venician and byzantine remnants (set the ancient greek ones apart), more or less obvious, can be absolutely fascinating. I really enjoyed walking in the old town and the fortress, discovering the mosques, finding old ottoman inscriptions on marble and stone and chilling in the municipal garden (a hidden gem, away from the noisy, overstimulating, tourist-packed old town). For somebody that wants to chill out, eat and drink, there are also plenty of choices.Guest review byNikistratos - 10.0

Agios Nikolaos is well worth a visit, this being our second time here after a day trip last year. This year we stopped here for 2 nights at the end of a tour around the island. We could probably have stayed for another night, 2 more at the most. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to visit, both during the day and night. Shops are great and beaches within 5 min walk or drive.Guest review byLeeUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Kissamos offered us a wonderful mix of relaxation and local charm. The nightlife was a pleasant surprise, with cozy bars and lively tavernas where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Evening walks through the town square and the nearby streets filled with local shops and traditional products were some of the highlights of our stay. It's a great place for couples looking for a laid-back yet authentic Cretan experience.Guest review byKonstantinosGreece - 6.0

Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.Guest review byAMELIAUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have stayed in Agia Marina five or six times over the years and it was the first place we visited in Crete over twenty years ago. Although we like to think that we do not return to places and have travelled the world, we have been to Crete at least fourteen times and have gravitated towards Agia Marina. Now in our late 70's, we are comfortable in the knowledge that it is a safe place to holiday, with a good range of accommodation, a predictable climate for the most part, some good restaurants and shops and the people are welcoming and friendly. It is also a short bus ride or taxi (about 8 miles) from Chania, for a change of scenery, a fantastic Venetian harbour and a good range of shops and restaurants.Guest review byCharles BarrettUnited Kingdom
