Jakarta has advanced a lot over the years.
Jakarta has advanced a lot over the years. I really enjoyed the public transport. MRT and Woosh High speed train were great. Cove jogging track at PIK was nice. The area around Sudriman is great also. Always enjoyed coming to Jakarta.Guest review byJan - 10.0
I spent 3 nights in Yogyakarta and I loved it.
I spent 3 nights in Yogyakarta and I loved it. It’s a less touristy city, full of culture and history. The pace of life is slower compared to Bali, but still very enjoyable. Gojek and Grab also work well here. I highly recommend not missing Prambanan and Borobudur. Both are absolutely worth visiting, and if you have the time, it’s best to do them on separate days so you can take your time to explore and enjoy each site fully. Keep in mind that not everyone speaks English, so I often used a translator to communicate.Guest review byJeanetteArgentina - 8.0

The WHOOSH Speed Train was awesome fast, comfortable and gave us peace of mind traveling to Bandung. Travel from Halim (Jakarta) to Padalarang (Bandung vicinity) takes about 30 minutes at speeds up to 350 km/h. We recommend engaging a driver through Kiki Travel they were efficient and offered affordable rates, making the journey smooth and hassle-free to explore outside Bandung such as Lembang about 1hour from Bandung. Hygiene at this places is a major concerned cause they have to at least install a fly trap at the cafe and restaurant. Stunning view and nice location but lots of flies.Guest review byTengku Sherina SyamanthaMalaysia - 8.0
Surabaya is a good stepping stone for other places.
Surabaya is a good stepping stone for other places. We didn’t really tour the city, mainly because we had other plans around it. The air quality was a bit disturbing. There were a lot of accomodation options, which was good. Would recommend it if you want to see ruins nearby or fly to Pangkalan Bun (Kalimantan).Guest review byTinaAustralia - 8.0

We were unable to arrange a ride to the hotel through the hotel. They wanted to know where we were at the airport and there were no identifying door numbers, or curb markers to tell them. Then they wanted us to take a picture of where we were and send it to them.... There was no picture we could take that would identify exactly where we were. A huge airport, we'd never been there before, had been traveling for 24 hours and we were exhausted and overwhelmed. We finally just took a cab. The room was quiet - after the people in the hallway stopped talking loudly at 2:30 AM. The room was comfortable enough for our 18 hours there. Beds comfortable, room temperature was great.Guest review bylindaUnited States - 8.0

Travelled for work, have had many trips for 3-6 weeks in Malang this year. It is a lively city, very busy and densely packed. There are some good bars and restaurants for westerners to visit, it's worth asking around as places close and new ones open up so online guides aren't always accurate. Climate is always warm, either warm and dry, or warm and rainy! People are very friendly, and the cost of living is very cheap compared to western prices. Local food is good, can be quite spicy as they do like chillies.Guest review byMatthewUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Semarang offers so much more than initially taught, off the...
Semarang offers so much more than initially taught, off the touristy itenary, with exquisite architecture, delicious local food and fascinating history. The city is home to an array of cultural festivals, local entertainment, a testament of Javanese theatrical and cultural traditions. The little Netherlands in the old city offers stunning architecture of the 17th century, when Indonesia was a Dutch colony, where most buildings colonial in style, includes medieval, baroque and modern eras styles. Showing flourishing signs of rejuvenation, this city has one of the best preserved and restored historic centres in Indonesia, with charming streets, colourful neighborhoods, secret alleyways, flower markets, lush gardens and parks, perfect climate and gracious people. With its harmonious blend of multi- culturalism, multi- faiths and multi- backgrounds, the melting pot of Semarang is a true microcosm of Indonesia as a whole, from ancient temples, to ancient churches, monumental museums, all the way to modern-day Middle Eastern-Javanese mosques, showing that the assortment of religious places, are as striking as they are different, and the fact that they all exist in the same city is a true testament to the acceptance, harmony and appreciation for diversity of Semarang. Amazing, thank you Up-Peak hotel, and it's welcoming staff.Guest review byPhotophproulxCanada - 8.0

ijen is pretty much overrated, it's a nice 6-hour-ish hike with above medium difficulty, the flame is underwhelming which is slightly bigger than a camp fire and the crater? go to Bromo instead. With the current volcano incident related to the Brazilian tourist, I am more convinced that people should be aware of tour guide's quality and training in East Java. Upon reading some brief information about traveling to Ijen, I found to mandatory in getting a guide, I went there alone and caught weird looks from other guides, some avoided my interactions when they found out I was alone, some others was good and paying attention.Guest review byVuVietnam - 8.0

Authentic introduction to a broad Javanese experience from traditional markets to modern shopping malls. Ancient palaces , streets packed with carts and traders , a look into the past. Very safe with smiles and welcomes everywhere . Truly lovely people , helpful and kind, anyone we came into contact with, staff, shop keepers, drivers - whatever - were overwhelmingly polite and caring with manners and curtesy . Plenty to see in the area. A day trip to Prambanan a pleasant 90 minutes through interesting landscape.Guest review byTerry
