Kanazawa is incredibly beautiful and felt like an underrated gem when we went there, as there were virtually no other tourists and the city was very calm and quiet. Lots of things to do, see and explore, and it kind of gives off similar vibes to Kyoto (with the historical districts and the river flowing through the city) but without the crowds. We had an amazing time there and would definitely return. We mostly walked everywhere because every street was gorgeous to look at. I recommend to visit the Kanazawa Castle and the garden next to it, the historical chaya districts (there are multiple) and the Oyama Shrine grounds. The onsen was totally Japanese in style and attention to detail, very relaxing and with a staff dedicated to providing the best service. They were attentive and helpful. The seaside accomodation was just as advertised. The host was helpful and a delight. She made sure we had a lovely 2 nights there. Rooms were well presented and large with amenities that were first rate. The glass manufacture workshop and the glass museum were well woth the trip. The glass gallery is world class and the architecture special and suited to its location. The aquarium was disappointing. I loved that you could walk around the whole of Kanazawa. There were so many interesting areas, good food and lots of history. It was a spacious town, with a mix of modern and old architecture. I absolutely loved Kanazawa - a lovely city but much smaller & therefore easier to get around than some of the bigger cities - and less crowded. So much to see & do, and we found we were able to walk to everything. Loved the old Samurai district & the Kenrokuen Garden is spectacular. Even the train station is a work of art.
