"I would definitely recommend Cancun as the place to go, especially the hotel zone. If there is one area that is complete is is there, with so many resorts to choose from in an extremely safe environment. A lot has been said about Mexico but when you are in Cancun it just feels like paradise. There is something for everyone."

"It is really beautiful and amazing, only a bit pricey. So my advice for people who look for good budget planning is to rent a bike/ scooter and use it all the time (the taxis are very expensive and the public transport doesn't really exist in the beach area). Also I recommend to eat in Tulum downtown because it's very good and much cheaper. Other than that, it is so worth it and so beautiful."

"I loved Bacalar ! You taste the real Mexico and full immersion in the nature. You can relax and enjoy the amazing lagoon. The prices are not expensive like other more touristic places and there are not so many tourists around … so very recommended Ps I suggest to go by car to go around."

"A must do for everybody that loves Mexico. You get these real island vibes here. There is a lot to explore on this island: turtle sanctuary, dolphin discovery, snorkel trips, diving (check out the underwater museum!), they even have their own little brewery “Isla Beer”. The food is superb, everyone is super friendly. Even though the Island isn’t that big, i would recommend to rent a Golf Cart for one day and drive around :) Really worth a visit!"

Restaurants are great and the other side of the area is very beautiful and calm.Rolandis is right on the beach and it was very nice there. Also Palmeras down town is just the same as it was in 1988 ! Perfect. We rented a car and that is recommended."

"We live in Playa del Carmen however we love spending time on the weekends in Puerto Morelos. We normally just come for the day but this time we stayed overnight. I would recommend at least a weekend trip to Puerto Morelos. We absolutely Love Puerto Morelos. It is a very clean, tranquil and pretty small beach town. The central plaza is a big draw for families. My son and other kids Love playing on the new and pretty large play structure surrounded by artificial grass, located in the central plaza. In the meantime, parents can sip on a latte or a juice at a pretty cafe nearby or just on a nearby park bench. The docks in Puerto Morelos are a pretty sight too, not to mention the gorgeous palm-tree lined white sand beaches. You will love PM!"

Mahahual

Diving & Snorkeling, Coral Reefs, Tropical beach
62 hotels
One of 542 reviews:
"I recently had the pleasure of visiting a truly spectacular beach that left me in awe. The beach was situated near a beautiful coral reef, and the water was crystal clear and calm, making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The soft, white sand was incredibly inviting, and I spent many hours lounging on the beach and soaking up the sun. One of the things that really stood out to me about this beach was how peaceful and serene it was. Unlike some of the more crowded beaches I've visited, this one felt like a true paradise, with plenty of space to relax and unwind. The lack of waves also made it perfect for families with young children or anyone who wants to enjoy the water without worrying about getting tossed around. Another thing that impressed me was the sheer natural beauty of the area. The coral reef was home to an incredible array of marine life, including colorful fish and sea turtles, which made for an unforgettable snorkeling experience. And with the stunning scenery all around, it was easy to forget about the outside world and just enjoy the moment. Overall, I would highly recommend this beach to anyone looking for a peaceful and picturesque getaway. It truly is a slice of paradise that I will never forget."

Absolutely beautiful hotel, when we arrived we got an upgrade to the bungalows closer to the adults pool, and it was amazing. We had been traveling for a few weeks in Mexico and I have to say this was by far the best hotel we stayed at. The staff, the details, the decorations, proximity to the center and the beach, it was perfect. It includes a very adequate breakfast as well. If you are doubting, don't. Stay here.

I had an incredible experience at this hotel! I stayed in a Standard Double Room for four nights, and it was a truly enjoyable stay. Service & Staff 👏 From the Aquamarina restaurant staff to the front desk team, pool bar, and towel station attendants, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Their warm and welcoming attitude made my stay even better. Dining 🍽️ The hotel has four different restaurants, but I only dined at Aquamarina. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style, offering a wide variety of options. The average dinner cost was around 450-500 pesos. I was happy to see plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices, making it easy to find food as a vegetarian. Another huge plus was having a Starbucks inside the hotel, which was super convenient for me as a remote worker. Room & Cleanliness 🏨 My room was spotless, and the towels were fresh and clean. The hotel itself had a very clean atmosphere. The room was also well-equipped, featuring a large refrigerator, a microwave, and all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Location & Safety 📍 The location is perfect—situated at the corner of the Hotel Zone, it’s only a 5-minute walk to nightlife spots like Coco Bongo and other clubs. I felt very safe walking around, even at night. I enjoyed taking walks along the bike path—1-1.5 km towards La Isla and 2-2.5 km towards Playa Tortugas. The hotel also has a stunning beach, which is one of its biggest highlights! Entertainment & Activities 🎶 The hotel hosts nightly events, which added a fun touch to my stay. One night, a Mexican singer performed, and another night featured a dance show—both were fantastic! Final Thoughts 💯 Overall, my experience was excellent, and I truly believe the hotel is worth the price. I would definitely recommend it for its amazing location, great service, and stunning beach! Would love to visit again! 😊✨

The place is beautiful with a great variety of places for family members to swim and play. We were varied age groups and there was something for all. Loved the river beach at the resort particularly. The service was exceptional. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful everywhere we went. We loved the food. Lots of options at the buffet. The Brazilian steakhouse was so much fun and delicious food. Trajinero was also excellent -- especially with Franky, our wonderful server who made the evening special. Best of all was the fusion restaurant. Sushi heaven! Thank you to Eleanor! The little ones also enjoyed the Teppanyaki dinner with the knife juggling and fire displays. Guest services was very helpful setting up all of our reservations in the weeks before our trip. My son surprised the ladies with spa treatments Mulak and the massage was one of the best I've had. I wish I caught the name of the woman who did the treatment (Patrice??). She was excellent and the ambience of the place really adds to the experience. We also enjoyed the parks and went to the three close ones - Xcaret, Xenses, and Xplor and had fun at all. The included shuttles came more frequently than the 20 minutes advertised -- a welcome surprise. It was a pleasure to have everything included -- transportation from the minute you land until the last trip to the airport, food and lockers at most parks.

Service: I spent one night at Papaya Playa Project in a beautiful Casita with a rooftop pool, and it was truly unforgettable. There is something about this place that captures the authentic soul of Tulum. The sound of the waves, the scent of the jungle, and the warmth of the people blend perfectly to create an atmosphere that feels both wild and deeply peaceful. Watching the sunrise from my rooftop pool felt like witnessing the world come alive. The sea in front of me, the palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the soft rhythm of nature all around me created a feeling of pure magic. What I loved most about Papaya Playa Project is its energy. It is not just a hotel; it is a place that makes you feel part of Tulum itself. Everything here feels genuine, earthy, and real. It is a space to disconnect from everything and reconnect with yourself. My stay was short but soul-stirring. I left feeling renewed, inspired, and with a piece of this beautiful place forever in my heart.

I wouldn't go back there right now. You can't enjoy the beaches or the water at all. Seaweed everywhere and it's a huge problem and the stench is horrible. Until they figure out how to stop it I wouldn't return. Maybe time for a new destination for me to find.

Playa del carmen, a vibrant city, although the beaches aren’t the most beautiful in Mexico, it is authentic and is the centre for activity. Vendors on the streets push drugs but the police presence is heavy and I felt safe completely. Very hot, sun was being for the entire 7 days (1st till 8th March). Excellent location for excursions .

Tulum has a lot to offer. It’s a really cool place. Don’t judge the book by its cover. A lot of the hotels don’t look real inviting from the front, from the street view. But there hidden gem when you walk into the front doors. You can walk almost everywhere, lots of shopping. People are friendly.

I was looking forward to a fun place with an energetic vibe.

I was looking forward to a fun place with an energetic vibe. Unfortunately, there was no music around the pool, and the outside restaurant was very limited and not very good. They ran out of several drinks at the pool bar. We had no electricity one day, no air one day, no hot water one day and we could not even get pool towels after 6:00pm even though the pool closed at 11:00pm. I tried to pick up pool towels the next morning and they were not available until 11:00 am. The upstairs bar closed at 8:00 pm which left us with nothing to do on the premises so we would have to go away from the resort to get any entertainment or decent food. We could not even get English on TV because they only offered Spanish and so I felt extremely isolated and restricted. I have never had this kind of experience at other resorts I have stayed at and have always looked forward to my vacations. This was such a disappointment, and I could honestly not recommend this resort to anyone else.

- beautiful hotel and beautiful and clean beach

- beautiful hotel and beautiful and clean beach - the view of the room was perfect - the quality and variety of foods was not good - in the main restaurant, there was no chance to take different foods , just order one food and wait to have it - too much waiting time for food - drinks were perfect The room was not perfectly clean

This is a lovely quaint little town 15 minutes away from Cancun, it is the perfect place to stay to get a less touristy experience with loads of great options for food and drinks. The beach is beautiful and the town has an evening market in the square that is especially great from Friday through Sunday. I recommend eating at El Refugio for the best tacos and cheapest beer in town.

We had an exquisite stay when you arrive.

We had an exquisite stay when you arrive. You are given a concierge who assists you with navigating the property. It was very helpful to have an app where we could book room service and activities. We participated in snorkelling and had a private paddle boarding lesson. We also went kayaking. We booked the snorkelling through another Vendor who is not far away on the beach but it was still very affordable $70 USD. The entire resort is very large. We sadly had a room that was a little bit far away from the centre where the restaurants are so we had to do a 10 minute walk to get to our reservations. I would recommend making reservations for all the places you want to eat on the first day that you want to arrive, although you can eat at most of the restaurants without a reservation. I have to express a special thanks to David Allan DiDi and Karina as well as Maximiliano for their support kindness and hospitality during our stay. I have no complaints. The food was fantastic. The service was exceptional. I would highly recommend it and I think it is worth every penny. Thank you, Secrets Akumal for making my birthday special.

This is a nice sized gated community.

This is a nice sized gated community. Comfortable for walking to restaurants & beaches. Street lighting made walking home comfortable, safe environment. Many great restaurants to choose from around the marina.
