lots of interesting statues, fountains, quiet cobbled streets. I recommend going for restaurants in side streets as opposed to main squares and those with mainly indoor seating tend to be good value for money. Square pizzas are the norm as opposed to neopolitan but delicious. Lots of guys selling cheap tat and trying to get your attention near the Roman sites. Just ignore them completely like the locals do - dont even bat an eyelid or respond to the "Hello - how are you today?" and they quickly leave you alone. Dissappointed with the colosseum which was packed with tourists swarming like ants and loads of building work going on which kind of spoilt some of the charm. Pantheon area and Trastavere were excellent though and more than made up for the tackyness near the Colosseum. Buses were packed - didnt bother with those. Train from the airport to the centre was good but watch out at peak times and get on board early to get a seat! (we made the mistake of not doing that on the way back and had a 30 min cramped stand back to the airport - good air con though). Would I recommend going ? Yes. Would I go back - no. (meh - I am middle aged and seen too much - prefer Venice anyway ;) )

We really enjoyed visiting the Colloseum and using local transit services to see the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and St. Peters. We purchased a 100 minute pass which gave us flexibility in our travel. We appreciated the convenience of water fountains to say hydrated, but did not enjoy the challenge of locating bathrooms. We would eat pizza, sandwiches or gelato sold by street vendors. We also bought groceries to save time and money. It was easy to get around, although the street names are not easy to find. We found Rome to be quite affordable. The residents were very friendly. It is difficult to purchase tickets for the Sisteenth Chapel and the Pantheon. It was pricey to do ahead of time. Tickets were not available when we visited. However, we were available to purchase tickets for the Colosseum that day. We were there later in the afternoon - around 5 p.m. We enjoyed visiting free venues, churches. There are many beautiful sites other than those favoured by tourists. The artwork and architecture of some of these unpublicized treasures are noteworthy despite their not being on the top-ten list. Be flexible and you will enjoy what Rome has to offer.

I liked the buzz on the streets and the fact that wherever you went you could see so much beautiful architecture! Rome really is wonderful! We took the Vatican guided tour and thank god for that, as we also got the skip-the-line entrance, otherwise, I don´t know how many hours we would have waited in line. Vatican of course is a wonderful place with all the sculptures and paintings etc - it is something you must see and we are glad we went there, but the crowds were also sooooo big, and it was a bit uncomfortable to move there. But what they say is true - if possible visit all the museums and fountains in the early morning - then it is fewer people there and you can enjoy it more!

Rome is full of rubbish! Plastic, paper, cans!!!!

Rome is full of rubbish! Plastic, paper, cans!!!! It's dreadful!!!! Drivers there won't stop at zebra pass, why are they not fined? We had to walk on streets just infront of driving cars! Everyone can drive straight toTrevi fountain!!!! That road should be closed for any car!!!! The cue to St. Peters Basilica was 2 miles long because just 3 security posts have been open for security check!!!! Service charge in restaurants is hidden, we have paid 3 euros per person!!!! We couldn't find on a menu or door a Service charge note!!!!! And we was told that we must pay!!!!! It's illegal in EU! Nobody must pay Service charge!!!!! Police or cagliari don't give a..... they sit in a car, or stand by a car this is all they do!!!! I haven't seen officers walking on streets or offering any help to tourists. In the termini underground Station cagliari clearly told me "we don't speak English here" and then laughed at us!!!!! When we turned then they spoke English and they seemed so irritated. Tourists are not welcome in Rome from foreign countries, seems that Rome can be represented in such a low dreadful state cuz city has and always will have tourists. It's shame, what a beautiful place to visit, and that place is drowning in rubbish and bad citizens attitude. We visit Rome in May, it was my second time in Rome, I don't think that I will be back once more again.... That City is going down.....

Our first time to visit Rome and we enjoyed this trip.

Our first time to visit Rome and we enjoyed this trip. The tourist attractions are best appreciated with a tour guide. Enjoyed our walks from one tourist site to another. Comfortable walking shoes are a MUST. Many options of food/cafes to choose from. The locals we met were very nice and helpful. Although, some store staff/owners of stores that sell bus tickets were rude.

I found Rome far too busy and noisy.

I found Rome far too busy and noisy. There was scaffolding, railings, hoardings and graffiti everywhere. I went in May (3 days) and it was rammed with tourists. I arrived on a Sunday and I was surprised to see the streets were really dirty (cigarette butts everywhere) although it was cleaner by Monday. I wanted to see the Sistine Chapel but the queues were 2 hours long in the midday heat so I didn't bother. Again The Trevi Fountain was rammed with tourists so you could hardly move. I walked everywhere which was nice as you see more (buses were rammed so could't get on). There are some beautiful streets and alley ways with lots of lovely restaurants and cafes. I heard people singing opera in the street and playing violins which was beautiful. There are stunning piazzas and churches. Be warned Italians rarely stop at zebra crossings but usually do at the green man sign but not always. I think it's best to get tickets in advance for the popular places, so you don't have to queue, although they can be expensive.

Delicious restaurants within steps from the door. We definitely recommend for a less hectic experience in Rome with quick access to all of the historical sites. The area had a more neighborhood feel to it that was greatly appreciated. The place itself was comfortable, clean, spacious and nicely appointed. In fact, the bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in since our Italy trip started! Guglielmo was easy to communicate with and recommended some really great food options including gelato. I would absolutely recommend a stay!

The location was great! We loved that we felt like locals while staying here. The room looks exactly like the pictures. Romantica Guest House was one of the best accommodations we had during our stay in Italy. Would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Rome. The check in process was also flexible. Our flight landed at 8 pm. We were able to stay in contact with the host and he met us at the Guest House right as the taxi was dropping us off. There was a small fee for late check in but it was very reasonable.

My recent visit to the Albergo del Senato was a repeat visit but for only one night layover as I was traveling south in Italy and it reinforced just what a wonderful small hotel Albergo del Senato really is and with an exceptional staff. My room was very reasonably priced and faced the piazza in front of the building with the Pantheon to the side and restaurants galore. Also, the breakfast was delicious. I can't think of any other hotel that I'd rather stay in Rome and I look forward to my next stay.

It was the best hotel we stayed in throughout Italy. Hotel Everest Inn - Rome was the best compared to our hotels in Milan, Florence and Naples. The room was a great size for 2 people, bright and clean including the bathroom. The staff at reception, including Ivan were very helpful and friendly and also allowed us to freshen up after we checked out and had to come back for our luggage. We also had free coffee and croissants in the morning. We definately would book this hotel again.

Amazing place!! Me and my mum really enjoyed out stay. The place has such a unique atmosphere. The host so helpful and nice. It really made our trip to Rome special. Thank you! Also, we got recommendation on the restaurant nearby and it was our best meal in Italy.

It is located near the Rome Termini train station. The host let us leave a bag there for several days while we traveled around Italy. The host sent us good instructions so we could check in after hours. We liked that they left the towels looking like swans on our bed. The shower had the best heat and water pressure of any shower in Italy. The host also recommended two great restaurants nearby.

Both receptionists, Amin and a blonde lady (forgot her name). They are so helpful. They answered my questions politely if I wanted to get any info for traveling in Rome and Italy in general. Keep it up! 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Mr Amin can consider to be promoted..Best hotel ever! Thank you

Beautiful boutique hotel right in the centre of Rome. Excellent modern facilities, well appointed rooms and large bathrooms which is a rarity in Italy! Excellent location for sightseeing and also a shopping destination too. I highly recommend the hotel.

The room was perfect for a few small trip to Rome. The staff were extremely friendly and I accidentally left clothes behind and they helped me send these to my next hotel in Italy. Couldn't ask for more, would highly recommend for the price.

The Staff were very welcoming and kind, VERY KIND. Only Hotel in the whole of Italy, after we toured Rome, Florence, Venice & Milan, that had plenty of ice cubes 24/7.
