I found Rome far too busy and noisy. There was scaffolding, railings, hoardings and graffiti everywhere. I went in May (3 days) and it was rammed with tourists. I arrived on a Sunday and I was surprised to see the streets were really dirty (cigarette butts everywhere) although it was cleaner by Monday. I wanted to see the Sistine Chapel but the queues were 2 hours long in the midday heat so I didn't bother. Again The Trevi Fountain was rammed with tourists so you could hardly move. I walked everywhere which was nice as you see more (buses were rammed so could't get on). There are some beautiful streets and alley ways with lots of lovely restaurants and cafes. I heard people singing opera in the street and playing violins which was beautiful. There are stunning piazzas and churches.
Be warned Italians rarely stop at zebra crossings but usually do at the green man sign but not always.
I think it's best to get tickets in advance for the popular places, so you don't have to queue, although they can be expensive.

Ancient Rome is much grander that I imagined!
Ancient Rome is much grander that I imagined! From the Colosseum to the Pantheon to the Spanish Steps. Everything was bigger, steeper, longer than they were from how I imagined them looking at pictures and watching TV. BUT also the crowds were much bigger than postcard perfect pictures show. I don't know if there's any low season for visiting Rome, but if there is, then definitely visit during those times.

visiting the enchanting city of Rome.
visiting the enchanting city of Rome. As someone who has always been fascinated by history, art, and culture, I found Rome to be a treasure trove of timeless wonders. If you haven't been yet, I highly recommend adding it to your travel. Walking through the ancient streets, I could almost hear the echoes of the Roman Empire. The Colosseum, standing as a monumental symbol of Rome. the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo's frescoes are as awe-inspiring as you might imagine, and St. Peter's Basilica, with its magnificent dome, is a testament to the architectural brilliance of the Renaissance.
One of the most delightful aspects of Rome is its vibrant culture and cuisine. Savouring authentic Italian pasta, pizza, and gelato at charming local trattorias was a highlight of my trip. Each meal was a celebration of fresh ingredients and culinary tradition. Rome is a city that truly has it all: history, art, cuisine, and a vibrant culture. Whether you're exploring ancient ruins, admiring Renaissance masterpieces, or simply enjoying a leisurely espresso in a quaint café, Rome offers an unforgettable experience.

Rome is great for tourist attractions, pasta dishes, ice cream and history.
Big problem with Rome is it's handling of tourist, especially at the Roman Forum ticket queuing system. Before I went to Rome I pre booked my ticket, did all the ID stuff on line. Got my ticket, flow to Rome and turned up at the set time. Two massive queues. No clear signs to which queue to use, asked ticket lady's advise, she told & pointed to a queue. So I joined this queue, waited for about 30 mins, when I got to the front of the queue, the security man told me I was in the wrong queue, I should be in the another queue. I was very upset as I have a physical disability which makes standing very painful. Plus there was no shade and the sun was beating down. I called over the lady who advised me to go into this queue, to address the problem. She came over and LIED, said she had told me to go in the other queue. They either think tourist are stupid or they (in my opinion) think we are worthless and beneath them.
Security guard argued that it would only take 5 mins in the other queue, it took 50 mins, standing in boiling sun. Other tourist seemed to experience the same problem. Also, world heritage site, no provisions for people with a disability, you think there would be a law against it.
I came to Rome to visit the Roman Forum, in the end I wished I had not bothered. Certainly it's not worth buying a ticket and queueing up. Just peer over the rails from the Via dei Fori Imperiali.
Loved the Pantheon...a must see...their ticket system worked.
Another problems in Rome; Noise pollution, especially from people playing music loud on their phones....it may have been okay if it was beautiful Italian opera, 3 tenors or choral, to go with the surroundings, unlike the terrible stuff I heard at full volume.
Delicious restaurants within steps from the door. We definitely recommend for a less hectic experience in Rome with quick access to all of the historical sites. The area had a more neighborhood feel to it that was greatly appreciated. The place itself was comfortable, clean, spacious and nicely appointed. In fact, the bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in since our Italy trip started! Guglielmo was easy to communicate with and recommended some really great food options including gelato. I would absolutely recommend a stay!
The location was great! We loved that we felt like locals while staying here. The room looks exactly like the pictures. Romantica Guest House was one of the best accommodations we had during our stay in Italy. Would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Rome. The check in process was also flexible. Our flight landed at 8 pm. We were able to stay in contact with the host and he met us at the Guest House right as the taxi was dropping us off. There was a small fee for late check in but it was very reasonable.
My recent visit to the Albergo del Senato was a repeat visit but for only one night layover as I was traveling south in Italy and it reinforced just what a wonderful small hotel Albergo del Senato really is and with an exceptional staff. My room was very reasonably priced and faced the piazza in front of the building with the Pantheon to the side and restaurants galore. Also, the breakfast was delicious. I can't think of any other hotel that I'd rather stay in Rome and I look forward to my next stay.
Probably one of my best stays in europe and particularly in Italy for that range of price. Staff was very kind, helpful and humble. The room was very clean with all equipments. no noise from the streets since the window is toward the garden. very close to the metro and Roma Termini. and I need to mention while the breakfast was not on the list of benefits I had access to the coffee and light breakfast and also the kitchen tools. I would surely remember this hotel for later when I visit Rome.
It was the best hotel we stayed in throughout Italy. Hotel Everest Inn - Rome was the best compared to our hotels in Milan, Florence and Naples. The room was a great size for 2 people, bright and clean including the bathroom. The staff at reception, including Ivan were very helpful and friendly and also allowed us to freshen up after we checked out and had to come back for our luggage. We also had free coffee and croissants in the morning. We definately would book this hotel again.
Amazing place!! Me and my mum really enjoyed out stay. The place has such a unique atmosphere. The host so helpful and nice. Our check in time was out of the house rules, but host allowed us to check in later. Moreover, our train got late and host still waited us for several hours. We just cannot be more thankful. It really made our trip to Rome special. Thank you! Also, we got recommendation on the restaurant nearby and it was our best meal in Italy.
It is located near the Rome Termini train station. The host let us leave a bag there for several days while we traveled around Italy. The host sent us good instructions so we could check in after hours. We liked that they left the towels looking like swans on our bed. The shower had the best heat and water pressure of any shower in Italy. The host also recommended two great restaurants nearby.
We have been road tripping through Italy and stayed at so many hotels, but this one was THE BEST!!! Perfect location, nice staff, and soooo modern and clean rooms with soooo comfortable beds and pillows. We felt like home and slept reallt good. We only stayed for one night, but this hotel will be our ”go to” everytime we visit Rome in the future!! Ten out of ten
1) location - within easy waking distance of Termini train station
2) large room with best shower of seven hotels in Italy
3) friendly helpful staff, especially excellent cleaning staff
4) beautiful secluded garden area with cafe tables for outdoor snacking and breakfast
5) quiet room and hotel halls
6) reasonable price made it a good value for Rome
Our room at Hotel Nazionale was by far the biggest and nicest of our stays in Italy. The rooms were large and very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the large, deep bathtub. The bed was also the most comfortable of our trip. The hotel staff was very nice, and teh location is great. You're within walking distance of all of the major sites in Rome.
The staff were all amazing, so friendly, pleasant, welcoming and helpful. We’ve stayed in many hotels in Italy but here the staff were head and shoulders above all the rest ☺️
The hotel itself was lovely too, clean, comfortable and super location, right beside the Spanish Steps!
We’ll definitely stay here again when back in Rome.
This hotel is absolutely wonderful. It is close to Termini Station and an easy walk to many attractions. The staff here is great. They are the friendliest we have met here in Italy. The breakfast buffet cannot be beat. I plan on coming to Rome next year and will stay here again! This hotel is a true gem!
The hotel is located near Termini station, there is a PAM local supermarket nearby and a few bars and restaurants. We stayed in a large room, with a balcony and a nice view over Rome. The hotel staff was, the room was cleaned everyday and had all things we needed for a comfortable three-days vacation in Italy.
Both receptionists, Amin and a blonde lady (forgot her name). They are so helpful. They answered my questions politely if I wanted to get any info for traveling in Rome and Italy in general. Keep it up! 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Mr Amin can consider to be promoted..Best hotel ever! Thank you
Beautiful boutique hotel right in the centre of Rome. Excellent modern facilities, well appointed rooms and large bathrooms which is a rarity in Italy! Excellent location for sightseeing and also a shopping destination too. I highly recommend the hotel.
this is the best hotel we stayed in Italy. it is new, but everything is perfect: rooms are big and stylish, staff is very helpful, the hotel is perfect in all details. and it is located in the best part of Rome!
will definitely stay here again.
The room was perfect for a few small trip to Rome. The staff were extremely friendly and I accidentally left clothes behind and they helped me send these to my next hotel in Italy. Couldn't ask for more, would highly recommend for the price.
Best Hotel during our trip true Italy.
Very kind and helpful receptionist. Clean and comfortable room. Amazing rooftop terrace!
Top breakfast!! We will be back soon to Rome and only in that Hotel. Grazie
Very good Location if you need a hotel close to where the buses go from to Rome Airport
Breakfast very good for Italy, the best of the three hotels we stayed at in Italy
The Staff were very welcoming and kind, VERY KIND.
Only Hotel in the whole of Italy, after we toured Rome, Florence, Venice & Milan, that had plenty of ice cubes 24/7.
