The Bluffs overlooking the lake are gorgeous. Our second day there we basically had the entire place to ourselves. The scenery, silence, and wildlife were wonderful.

South Haven is so cute! I am from South Bend, IN which is only 1 hour away, and I only stayed for 1 night, but I felt like so was on a lovely vacation on the east coast. The town has such a nice vibe! South Beach is a great, beautiful beach with a lighthouse and a playground. I also went to 12 Corners Winery, The Flying Saucer Cafe, Black River Tavern, New Holland Spirits, and South Haven Brewpub. All of the places were great, but New Holland had very unique, delicious drinks (would highly recommend the Lake Lift Lemonade, Coco Loco, and Pop That Thang), and South Haven Brewpub had a super fun vibe because of its location and because it had pool and board games. Would definitely go back!

Attractive Lake Michigan beach town.
Attractive Lake Michigan beach town. Lots of shops and restaurants although 5-star eateries are in nearby larger towns. Clementines is a popular casual restaurant with good food. I am sure there are others but we were there only one night. Harbor area is very attractive.

South Haven although a touristy town has its perks.
South Haven although a touristy town has its perks. There is a lot of shopping and restaurants. The town starts to close up the later it gets in the year as with anything on the west coast of Michigan. A lot of the shops have the same merchandise at different prices but may have different colors to choose from. Most all of the workers in the shops where friendly and helpful. Some even just wanted to chew your ear off with conversation. South Haven is not too far from Saugatuck and Holland but beware that Holland is mostly close on Sunday and if you plan to eat there be prepared to wait in a lengthy line.

South Haven was not attractive mostly due to the upper 30s temps and strong wind. Clementines was a great restaurant and the saving grace that stopped us from leaving a day early. The parking and driving is horribly crowded and I have never stayed at a hotel that didnt have its own parking . To make that worse there was no place to stop and unload so you had to drag your luggage uphill 2 and a half blocks. The place locked up at 930 at night and its a tourist town:) The staff was virtually invisible and very unfriendly. They surely gave us the worst room in the hotel. It was all bed , radiator ( ice cold ) and a small frig. You could hardly turn around in the shower. Half of the electric outlets did not work because if you plugged something in the plug just fell out. I had a great trip there this summer in a Vrbo beach rental and would not go back to this hotel or downtown on a bet .
the place was so pleasant. Staff was wonderful, facilities were spectacular, and I was impressed with the breakfast that the hotel served. It was a full breakfast, most anything you wanted, was offered...Will recommend to anyone visiting the area to stay there. Also, the pool was fabulous!!!!!
The history of the hotel makes it very quaint, the staff was Awesome!!! Very friendly and informative. Happy hour was fun and meeting the owner was a Hoot! We would come back just to sit and talk with him. Great job Hotel Nichols! Maybe add some ghost stories to spice things up😁
We stay at Great Lakes every time we go to Michigan. Or at least we try to if it's not booked already. We LOVE the location. Staying in the suites is my favorite but they were booked. It's not your upscale hotel but it has just what we need and want.
Hotel Nichols is beautiful, but what I liked the most was the cordial welcome with wich we were treated. Megan was always attentive to our needs. Scott, the owner, chatted with us for a while during happy hour where he served good wine and canapés.
Absolutely loved the staff! They were super nice and helpfull all the time. Amenities in the room are great, room is clean & modern. We had a good view. Hotel is in a short driving distance from town and close to the highway (without any noise)
Charming older hotel, perfect spot to walk around South Haven. Evening happy hour was a nice addition, and got to chat with the owner who seemed like a great guy. Definitely recommend staying here.
Rooms and house are clean. Just minutes from South Haven and a short drive to other downtown areas. Breakfast was good and cooked to order. Rashid is a friendly and kind host.
The entire staff from food desk to housekeeping was very welcoming & friendly. The hotel itself is practically brand new & very clean. Very accommodating!
