Early check-in was readily accommodated. Our room was clean with a little "sitting room" (frig, microwave, couch), two queen beds and large TV screen. Manager fixed a brief issue with TV remote. I loved the shower with regular shower head and lower one (almost felt like a bidet!) Full b'fasts each day were just right. Fresh-baked cookies every day too! Heated pool and fire pit nice. Quite close to elephant seal viewing and Hearst Park (can walk on beach) and Hearst Castle.
Surrounded by gardens and palm trees, the San Simeon Lodge has an outdoor heated pool and deck seating, along with rooms with a view of the Pacific Ocean one block away.

San Simeon is a great spot for quiet relaxation.
San Simeon is a great spot for quiet relaxation. It's right by the ocean and has several restaurants. It's also just a few minutes drive to Cambria if you want to go for a nice walk on the Moonstone Beach walkway right by the ocean, and then another short drive to Cambria's cute little town.

The ocean was beautiful.
The ocean was beautiful. It was great seeing the elephant seals, and all their babies, lots and lots of babies everywhere. Every female seem to have a baby was happy to see the her castle from afar could not take my puppies, so I could not go on the tour. Next time I will go on the tour I will find a pet sitter.

San Simeon is just one of those cool places that are not over crowded by people and businesses. Different places to stop and explore along this part of the coastline. Besides having Hearst Castle, you can check out the elephant sea lions area and a lighthouse. Just south of San Simeon you have a quick drive over the Moonstone Beach and another 20 min south you have Morro Bay. I think it is a great place to stay when you don't want to be in one of the bigger beach towns, its a more down to earth place when you want to just be in one of the small cozy towns.

San Simeon state Beach is perfect for families.
San Simeon state Beach is perfect for families. It's not crowded like Pismo or windy like Avila. Perfect for families. Affordable restaurant options are limited for large families. None really unless you eat at the mini mart.

We are from Southern California, so other than being cooler...
We are from Southern California, so other than being cooler than expected and overcast in the morning in August, the weather was great. The scenery is picturesque and there is tons to do. The hotel gave us a guidebook/map of the area and it listed so many fun activities, way more than you can do in a weekend vacation. Of course, Hearst Castle is the star. We did not get to see the lighthouse due to odd hours. We couldn't even park nearby to just take pictures. Cambria is only five miles away for shopping and dining and Harmony is just another five miles south for ice cream, photos, and gift shopping.
Pacific Coast is one of the few hotels that continues to provide a hot breakfast of eggs and bacon as well as yogurt, cereal, and pastries. The room has a microwave and refrigerator. I usually bring my own food so I appreciate that convenience. The bed is comfortable. The room has hardwood floors and is nicely decorated. Because this hotel is usually the lowest price when I am searching for places to stay thanks to booking.com VIP status, I have booked this hotel at least 5 times in 1.5 years.
The attitude from staff was exceptional. During our trip to US we had 5 stays in different hotels, but I didn't feel so good attitude from hotel staff even with my platinum level in IHG hotel chain compared to exceptional treatment at Coast Riders Inn where we arrived late in the evening after bad luck with accommodation at Big Sur. On the way we had an accident with wild animal and hotel staff was ready to help with repair of the car if that would be necessary.
The hotel was very comfortable, and the room and facility were very clean. We had an ocean view and a little balcony. The breakfast was far superior to most “included” hotel breakfasts. There was a wide selection, and plenty of food. Edward and his family run the place, and they are very nice folks. We will definitely stay here again. Just minutes to Hearst Castle or Cambria.
We requested an upstairs room on the quieter side of the hotel. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the room. Our balcony had a lovely view of the hills as well as the ocean. The bed was very comfortable, and we appreciated having cable TV. Excellent location for visiting Hearst Castle and Cambria. Beach access within walking distance.
Nicely located at the Beach of San Simeon.
Perfect place to slow down before or after you crossed Big Sur on road 1.
Room was clean and spacious.
It’s very close to the Hearst beach / pier and also his castle (castle was just closed when I was there but there are opportunities to visit it).
Further, nice place to watch the elephant seals.
Fantastic customer service. Neal and his staff go above and beyond expectations. Newly remodeled rooms are awesome. The free breakfast was delicious, and a balcony and ocean view for under $150 is insane. Used to stay at The Morgan when staying in San Simeon, but the Pacific Coast Roadhouse is our new stay, just fantastic.
This is a nice little hotel for a stop over, we had large rooms with all they facilities we needed. Staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was a help yourself, with microwavable sandwiches or wraps, cereal, bagels, toast and fruit, so we all had something that we enjoyed :-)
Extremely dog friendly, huge property, amazing location, every staff member was friendly, courteous and helpful. Room service was great-and fast. Minibar was appreciated. Grateful for the binoculars in the room, as there was plenty of whale watching from our Oceanfront room! Enjoyed the fireplace in our room.
Beautifully renovated hotel in an excellent location!
We loved everything about our stay: friendly, welcoming owner; spacious, clean rooms; complimentary breakfast; pool & hot tub; & close to Hearst Castle, elephant seals at Piedras Blancas, & Moonstone Beach/Cambria.
San Simeon Lodge is THE best place to stay in San Simeon !!! Hands down !!! The gardens add so much to the ambiance of the Hotel. And the staff is friendly and helpful . They have a restaurant on site that is great !!
A perfect hotel as a stopover on the way up the coast and near the Hearst Castle. Very peaceful and comfortable, with attractive lawns and firepits overlooking the ocean; a great place to enjoy a lovely twilight.
Good location, good value for money. Lots of dining options around. Right near Hearst Castle. Close to view points on route 1 with seals which was very nice. Clean and comfortable room.
