Guillermo is a great host and the staff are fabulous....very friendly and very helpful with bags, advice, wildlife detection! etc.
You're surrounded by forest but with easy access to the beach, just down the hill. We didn't find a profusion of wildlife as some reviews imply, but if you're reasonably patient, toucans will appear and monkeys will swing by, plus maybe an occasional macaw.
Breakfast was very good, dinner was fine, we missed lunch most days. Excellent value if you can accept a few privations.

Lucas greeted my family on the beach upon our arrival from a tour of Corcovado National Park and quickly arranged for a car to drive us the short distance to Bella Vista. He and his extended family were welcoming and cooked hearty meals during our stay. A highlight was his demonstration of making coconut cookies from scratch. Delicious!

Great place to stay if you want to visit Corcovado national park. Not only Corcovado is worthwhile but Drake Bay itself as well. I would recommend taking the boat from Sierpe to Drake Bay as it’s very convenient and the boat ride is extremely scenic!

Very nice peaceful place, at the grounds of a friendly costarican family, right on the edge of the rainforest. Beautiful Ganadito beach is at walking distance. The cabin where we slept was new and fine.

The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you must visit them with a guide for the appropriate access and to really appreciate what is there. Drake is a the ideal place from which to reach the parks. We travelled to Drake Bay by intercity bus from San Jose and connected with the ferry. The "wet landing" was a first for us - a genuine adventure where the ferry assistants wade your luggage to shore on their shoulders and the passengers just focus on getting themselves to shore. The ferry takes an hour or so through amazing mangroves. Make sure to tell your hotel to book you on the ferry to avoid misunderstanding -- there are only two ferries per day and you don't want to lose a day/night in Sierpe.
The park is amazing --book a tour well in advance as daily entries are limited. Access to the park is by boat. Birds galore, several species of monkey including the mighty howler, tapirs, two species of ant eater, and many more creatures. We did the snorkeling tour too which was also amazing. We saw deep sea turtles, sharks, manta rays and a plethora of species of fish. Beautiful, pristine and rules about not interrupting wildlife. For example, we were watching a turtle and she started to rise for air and we all had to move back 4-6 metres and we had the joy of then watching her float on the surface for a while and just rock in the waves. Being herself and breathing without feeling anxious

The town, while not a secret by any means, has still avoided the trappings of rampant tourisim. There is a local vibe that is genuine and refreshing.. I like that the town is still a bit rough on the edges.
The abundance of world class outdoor experiences is the icing on the cake.

It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it.
It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it. Beautiful walking trail to san josecito, magnificent view, good restaurants (kalaluna & coco cafe), a lot of activities. You have access to the Corcovado NP, waters are calmer than most beaches in costa rica (good for swimming). Snorkeling tour to cano was great!

It is a very remote, relaxed place.
It is a very remote, relaxed place. Great to experience the simple life. There is a beautiful hiking trail along the coast line to more secluded beaches. Many activities to be done from the beach, including day trips to Corcovado national park, night tours, snorkelling trips.
The beach itself is not amazingly beautiful- it’s not pristine white sand and clear waters- it has a very rustic feeling and there are no beach bars. But there are places to eat just up from the beach or grab a drink from the supermarket. We saw a lot of wildlife! Scarlet macaws are flying around. There’s a nice restaurant called Lookout restaurant with good food and a great view over the bay.
The staff is beyond great! Norlyn and Derrick went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of. The value for this place cannot be beat. A breakfast for two is included, and by this I mean a member of the family handcooks for you the day's breakfast.
The room is clean and comes with a hot shower and cold air conditioning, and they offered to clean the room and change the beds every single day.
Drake Bay is a beautiful simple place, and I felt like the Cabinas was a big part of our great times here.
Nice place to stay with rooms with airconditioning, a short walk from the beach and restaurants. The owner Javier is friendly and was able to help us with booking our tours.
He was also our tour guide in Corcovado NP on our overnight trip there. This was the highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. Javier is very knowledgeable and we saw tapirs, sloaths, anteater and many other animals.
Our drive to Drake Bay was hard without a 4x4. Would not recommend. With 4x4 doable.
Location is great, it's very convenient that they pick you up with a car when you first arrive on the boat. Rooms are clean and spacious (we stayed in one with AC). Hotel was quiet (when there wasn't construction) and the pool area was a great place to hang out in the afternoon and watch the birds. It was a nice touch that we got to request what time we wanted breakfast. The two receptionists were welcoming, informative, and readily available.
Very helpful staff. They brought us to the hotel, showed us the city, managed our activities and taxi boat, so we could just enjoy our time in Drake Bay without worries.
The place is amazing - cabins in the jungle but near to the city and beach. You can relax on the terrace in the hammock and watch birds, squirrels or lizards. Unfortunately, when it's dark outside, there are huge insects, so if someone is afraid of them should be aware of that.
This place is just paradise
The people of the hotel are kind, helpfull and this is authentic Costa Rica. We spoke a lot with them and it was such a pleasure! And the food is... excellent (big up to ceviche and fajitas di pollo)!
We have seen so many animals. The beach is wonderful. We spend 3 nights and it was too short....
It is quite far from drake so you must be good organised.
I hope we can come back!
The location is top! If you wonder if you'll get a good view, don't worry, every bumgalow has its own unique viewpoint soot towards the sea.
The food is delicious, both in the hotel and in the restaurant (and once again great views).
I really recommend this place, the people take great care of you and the rooms are so amazing you can sit on your balcony and observe all types of birds (including toucans).
Really beautiful hotel just up the hill from Drakes Bay. The hotel picked us up from the boat and even gave us an upgrade on our room, which was really comfortable and well equipped with a fantastic view. The pool and seating area are really nice with great views. The hotel was great value for money and we would definitely stay again and opt for the superior room
The view is amazing. We enjoyed watching some animals from our room terrace and a common terrace. We could feel nature so much. The room is clean and comfortable. Every staff is really nice and helpful. The breakfast is tasty and fancy (They make even early morning before your tour to Corcovado). l recommend to choose this if you stay in Drake Bay.
Quiet villa in beautiful and secluded property. Wildlife such as toucans and scarlet macaws are seen every day in the area and the hotel staff are very attentive and friendly. The hotel offers optional dinner which was excellent and different every evening and better and more varied than what was offered in other restaurants in the area.
The view from the porch was lovely. The air conditioning worked. Drake Bay has good access to Isla Cano Marine Reserve and the Corcovado National Park, which are both worth a visit if you are into those things. The staff was extremely helpful with luggage, arranging tours, and responsive to requests, but the hotel lacks amenities.
The locatio is supreme. We stayed at room no. 5, so we also had a little plunge pool on the deck looking over the drake bay and cool ourselves. A lot of animals around: scarlet macaws, toucans, colibbries and others. Breakfast is good servers in a beautiful balcony with a view.
In the room a kitchenette with micro and fridge
Drake Bay is on the edge of the jungle. We had an awesome time here. The view from the restaurant is really stunning. When you are taking early morning trip to Corcovado, location is very convenient, with just about 3 minutes to the beach meeting point.
The beautiful setting of the hotel, it looks over a small river surrounded with trees and birds. A/C was excellent, staff was lovely and helpful. Food was tasty, the hotel added to my love for Drake Bay. It’s quite charming but understated.
The hotel was located close to town but far enough away to feel private. The ocean view was stunning. The wild life was great! Room was clean. The restaurant Claudio's served delicious food. We really enjoyed our stay.
Perfect location. Erick was very helpful during our stay, he met us at the beach after we arrived to Drake on the boat from Sierpe. The room was clean and with a perfect view of the bay, working a/c and mini fridge.
The location was beautiful, the staff were lovely, and the food was surprisingly fantastic considering how in the middle of nowhere we felt. I'd definitely stay there again if I ended up in Drake Bay again.
The location, the staff, the food, and the facility were all wonderful. We could not recommend this hotel more highly. Additionally, the guides for the various tours were also very good.
Best restaurant in Drake bay! We dinned twice. Ordered fish, vegetarian dishes and some drinks, all spectacular 👌Great buffet breakfast and cleanest rooms in whole Costa Rica, really.
The nicest place I’ve stayed. A convenient and easy walk along the beach to Downtown Drake. Great on site restaurant and a charming staff that gets it all done.
