The location was exceptional and the three days we spent there were very affordable. Along the Ninth River, it was quiet and the sound of water flowing wa soothing (there was also an electrical hookup for EVs). We loved watching the sheep and lambs across the river. The surprise was the owner is an Italian chef! We arranged to eat dinner at the hotel on our first evening after a long trip, and then we ate every meal there for three days! Each time was delightful. He grows vegetables in his garden and greenhouse, and everything was perfectly prepared. We highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely, bucolic setting and very clean and comfortable Cottage. The walk to town is extraordinary, with fields, rolling hills, a bridge over the river and sheep, but can take 20-25 minutes. There is also a river walk right in front of the cottage that will take you by the Euchan Well and waterfalls through a forest. Just delightful.

We stayed here for a few days, loved the little flat. Really good use of space, comfy. Little notes explaining everything we could hope to know about the area. Darvel is a really quiet little village, but with good access to all main roads. Shopping is a little sparse, but there's a large Tesco about 8min by car. Hazel was kind enough to leave little treats out as well. Communtcaiont was spot on, she was always availible for any question we might have. Will definitely stay here again!

Muirkirk is a little off the better known tourist trails in southern Scotland but that's a shame because there's a lot to do and see in the area. For industrial heritage I'd recommend the Cumnock Heritage Centre - absolutely fascinating, with wonderful staff to show you around - the mining heritage at the Barony A Frame and Glenbuck Heritage Village. The countryside is varied, beautiful and you'll have plenty of wide open spaces to yourself. I'd recommendation the Twa Brigs walk in Muirkirk itself and the River Ayr Walk trail at various points between Glenbuck and Ayr itself. Also, slightly further afield, Ness Glen is a must-see.
