Otranto has a charming, beautiful Altstadt. It has a wonderfully tiled big square along the harbor with lots of restaurants. The town's white washed houses are delightful. It has a nice cathedral with a huge, beautifully restord mosaic along the floor of the cathedral. Visiting the historic castello is advisable. So much to see and do, lovely, friendly atmosphere, with a beautiful port and castle and lots of wonderful restaurants to choose from! Excellent choice of restaurants both inland and on the promenade. Lots of shops selling local produce and souvenirs. Although the closest beach gets crowded there are other spots to swim off and other much larger beaches just up the coast . If you have a car. The castle is impressive and adds character to Otranto. Great base for exploring the southern tip of Italy with easy access to the main highways. We stayed 5 nights. Overall we stayed 3 weeks in Salento. Otranto is a good base to visit key sites. We stayed in Gallipoli too for a few nights which was great (try the Sea Garden), but preferred Otranto overall - an amazing city/town.Guest review byAndyUnited Kingdom
