We loved this off-the-beaten-path pub and small B&B (just three rooms; book early if this appeals), In the heart of an a rural village known for iron and slate mining, this village is adorable and nestled in the outskirts of Cardiff. We found the staff friendly, particularly Adam and the owners took much pride in their establishment. The rooms were well-equipped, quiet, comfortable. Like old world pub style, we chatted with other patrons as though old friends. Would have stayed more nights if our travels allowed. Pub food and breakfast were delicious and artfully presented.

Cardiff is a beautiful city with lots of attractions to see. We went to the Cardiff Castle, the famous Cardiff market, Barry beach and some lovely parks around. We also went on a boat trip which was amazing. We loved listening to the recorded history of the River Taff and Ely. The kids enjoyed lots of activities at the fair ground.

A nice place with an excellent shopping centre.

A nice place with an excellent shopping centre. Disappointed with the lack of green areas in the centre. People, including shop staff, were very nice and helpful. However it was difficult to find somewhere to eat what we like (traditional English meals). Ended up with tasteless junk takeaway. We did not bring transport but did not need to go anywhere that was not walkable, other than we would have liked to have found a suitable eatery nearer the city centre, because we have a dog and even if allowed, he does not travel well on buses. We are not a young couple and it looked like there was little for us to do in the evenings.

I lived in the Chepstow area for over 30 years and was visiting having moved away 7 years ago. It has changed in those years mainly because of the Severn Bridge tolls being removed and people moving in from the cities close by. There are more bars and restaurants there now to meet the needs of the increased population but the town itself feels in need of some TLC. It's still a great location for visiting the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley areas though and you can easily get the train to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff so is great as a base for visiting other places.

We were in the area for visiting family and friends. Barry is not your average holiday destination. Good for beaches if weather is good. The funfair on the Island would be good for thrill seekers. Not like the Fun parks of course. A fairly good base for touring the coastal areas, and Cardiff. There is a fabulous fish restaurant at the Knap area in Barry.

Towels old, grey and thin. Room NOT serviced.

Towels old, grey and thin. Room NOT serviced. Got fresh towels from Reception. Bathroom had no sink plug which made wet shaving by my husband difficult to do. Shower floor very slippy when shower was in use - no bath mat, no hand grip. No bath mat for outside of shower. No soap in shower dispenser. Poor lighting, room very dark. No spare pillows We paid for bed & breakfast a dreceived a cardboard box containing cornflakes, UHT milk carton, an oat biscuit, pan au chocolates, tiny bottle of water, spoon and tissue. I am diabetic - totally unsuitable and would not have taken booking had we known. Room was clean but very strong breath taking smell of bleach which lingered for hours. Bed linen satisfactory. . Bed had a roll together mattress.

The room was a good size. Location was great. Parking was helpful. Unfortunately the front house stafs were miserable to deal with. We were woken up very early and asked to leave despite paying for late check-out. He didnt belive and asked us to provide the proof of payment. Imagine if we couldn't find the receipt. Surely there are systems they have in place to check this. It ruined our morning as we planned on having a lie-in. The while point of our late check-out was defeated.

Small Seaside Town with an adjacent huge holiday park - literally a town of two halves - the old town is compact, bustling and has small side streets full of genuine shops as well as seaside vendors and restaurants - we didn't go into the Holiday Park area so I can't comment on that. The Seafront itself is NOT for swimming in - in fact its banned on safety grounds due to tide and rocks - - but looks wonderful as the tide grows over the rocks - there are sandy beaches either side of the town that are popular. Expect it to be nicer when the Promenade Esplanade Pavilion, currently under renovation, is finished. Surfing school to the north, by the Golf Course. And anywhere you can pay for a whole days parking on a municipal car park for less than £5 is going to be a winner

The hotel is located a few miles outside Abergavenny, easy to find on a main road. It has a large car park at the front and is set well back so not much traffic noise .Food is typical pub grub and reasonably priced. We had a good meal and an excellent bottle of wine.
