The Paje beach itself didn't seem that swimmable due to so many kite surfers taking over the beach. But the property has an amazing pool that you can spend hours in, which is what we did and then went down to the beach for sundowners and dinners in the evenings. Every restaurant we ate at was delicious. Our top favorites were Hello Capitano, Zanzibarista, Roots, Plants, and Basil. The beaches were Picture perfect beautiful! Take the tides into consideration; low tide really pulls back VERY far, but it made for an amazing walk INTO the ocean. I would recommend beach shoes as we did spot a few sea urchint's. High tide was great for swimming. Calm and warm with little to no currents. Lots of Hotels, Restuarants and Bars on the beach, and shops nearby which was convenient. My only issue is that is was quiet dirty. Not on the beach but all the roads around the main beach. Also the Beach Boys, Masai and Hawkers on the Beach was INSANE. Everyone is trying to sell you something. It was extremely annoying. Other then that, Paje is a busy place, with lots of activities and lots to do... The sailing trip by dhow to the reef was great, very relaxing. Eating at the Bento food court was a big hit with my son. Tried a different 'kitchen' every night. It's easy to get around Paje on foot. Some of the activities (quad biking, kite surfing) appear to be double the price compared to other locations on the island. The number of hawkers trying to sell you their goods, and young Masaai approaching each and every tourist with the same vocabulary (hakuna matata, pole pole, my brother, you remember me, etc?) becomes highly annoying after a while!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Paje is my favorite beach town in all of Zanzibar and I travelled the entire island by a motorcycle I rented from Happy Bikes for 10 days. I liked the people, the vibe, the food.....all. Very relaxing and beautiful from sunrise to after sunset. I will return to Zanzibar someday and I will go directly to Paje. I think you can get there by taxi from the Zanzibar airport or Stone Town for around $50 one way (depending on how good your bargaining skills are). I rented a Royal Enfield Himalaya motorcycle for a lot less then that so that daily rental covered my return trip as well. Paje is a great town with several beach and other resturants, shops, atm's, banks, medical services, fuel station, etc. The Paje vibe is great and the restaurants along the beach are great.
