FAQs about hotels in Darwin

Australia's Cyclonic Cocktail

Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).

The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.

A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.

Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.

Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.

We were not in Darwin for a holiday as we have been there a number of times before. The short stay of 2 days was suitable for our next destination. We really do like Darwin as a city. There is so much on offer if you choose to stay longer.

So much to see and do and plenty of fabulous well priced places to enjoy dining, especially the alfresco waterfront restaurants and hotels. Winter escapes for people of the southern states is a bucket list must. From history and understanding more of Darwin's important past to cultural and nature experiences, Darwin has it all. A city that has experienced devastation has bounced back to life and despite the negative press it has received there is so much happening of a positive nature to rate it as a great and vibrant part of Australia to visit.

Darwin is a fantastic place to visit.

Darwin is a fantastic place to visit. I have lived there in the past but always love to go back. There are plenty of interesting places to discover off the beaten track. Lots of museums, beautiful botanic gardens, National Parks and Crocodylus Park is another place that I never tire of. If you want to splurge, you can see some fantastic scenery from the air by doing a Helicopter Pub crawl. It is not just a pub crawl, don't be fooled. It's breathtaking seeing Darwin and surrounds from a chopper!

Darwin was a relaxed place to visit. Plenty to see and do in Darwin and the surrounding area. Mindil Beach, Deckchair Theatre, museums, galleries, Litchfield National Park swimming holes (we have a new appreciation for pool noodles), Tiwi Island, botanical gardens and so much more. Darwin is a gateway to adventure in Australia’s Top End.

Darwin is a gateway to adventure in Australia’s Top End. From crocodile cruises on the Adelaide River to exploring the rugged beauty of Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, it’s a paradise for thrill-seekers and nature lovers. The city itself offers a vibrant mix of culture and excitement, with buzzing night markets, tropical sunsets at Mindil Beach, and waterfront bars perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The apartment was in a great location for views, restaurants, cafes and just a short walk to the city. It was clean and had everything we needed including a full kitchen, laundry and a balcony. The communication before and during our stay was clear and responsive. Plenty of information on things to do in Darwin and surrounds.
