Amazing location - the view from the dining area, onsen and rooms is amazing overlooking the mountains from a secluded perch. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel so welcome in a warm family-run establishment. The food is some of the best we ate this trip. A real convivial vibe with everyone congregating for drinks on the terrace ahead of dinner. Make sure to try the homemade ume-shu!

Bed comfy, nice a/c, easy check-in, not far from train and bus lines, and the host went above and beyond helping me get stated on the Kumano Kodo. He helped contact the next place I'd be staying to schedule a pickup, The only contact was via local phone info. He even reached out to me to call the next host when I was at the pick up point. Great host!

It’s a remodeled century old house so the experience was quaint. The silence was so very much appreciated! The owners combined speak Japanese, English, and Italian. The Chef amazingly fuses Japanese and Italian cuisine together. The food was really amazing 🤩

This is a very nice Japanese style guest house on two floors. Our group of 5 were the only ones staying there, which was great, as we prepared to embark on walking the Kumano Kodo the next day. There's a shared kitchen, living room, along with shared toilets and showers. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated, and only a very short walk from Kii Tanabe train station. Once we found the person who checks us in, she was very nice and helpful. Excellent value.

    Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

    Located just 5 min walk away for Kii-Tanabe station in a quiet side lane. Is a small charming place with a lot of interesting things, in an old 80 year old house. Too bad I only reached late at night and left early to really look at the house. Very friendly and helpful owner who helped me to write my luggage transfer slip for 7-11 and helped to look through my intinerary.

    The hostess was very nice and accommodating. It a shared bathroom and shower facilities. It was nice that there was microwave to warm up food should we need it. The location was very convenient since it was close to the JR train station. We had to catch a bus to Kii Takajiri for our Kumano Kodo hike the next morning. , a pleasant experience.

    Really nice coffee shop, perfect place for any people who wants to see how traditional Japanese house looks like. The personal could also speak English, which is really convenient. And the cakes for the breakfast were amazing. I highly recommend if you want to stay in Kii tanabe.

    It should be advertised that this hotel is right by the train tracks. It was absolutely impossible to sleep. This is specially bad for people who are about to start the Kumano Kodo and want a good night of sleep before embarking on the walk.
