A beautiful, hilly town.
A beautiful, hilly town. The old part of the town was picturesque and it was lovely to take a walk down Shanklin Chine. Food in the area was good with a great choice of restaurants. We had a nice meal at Cinnamons Indian restaurant as recommended by our hosts at the Ryedale.Guest review byRosettaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
This is a very small and quiet residential town .
This is a very small and quiet residential town . Don't go there for the night life or boutique shopping . The beach is sandy and good for swimming. Lots of interesting places for day trips near by.Guest review byKateUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ryde is an historic town with many interesting buildings.
Ryde is an historic town with many interesting buildings. An amazing and unusual pier allowing both cars, train and pedestrian access to the end without being bombarded by gaming machines etc. Wide selection of shops. The main High St. is part pedestrianised but a timed closure of the rest to the seafront would improve the shopping experience and safety. If time permits walk around some of the back streets. There are many amazing residential properties and some interesting architecture.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that.
Cowes is quite busy and noisy, but we expected that. If you want a quiet IOW break, choose one of the resorts on the other side of the island, but for the buzz of the world's yachting capital stick to Cowes. Bus services to all parts of the island are frequent and plentiful.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Lots of places to eat and drink and swim.
Lots of places to eat and drink and swim. Sadly there are more empty shops and empty buildings. the road closures due to land slip made aceess by car and on foot difficult ate at the Sea pot (very good sea food platter), The Spyglass (shared at pint of prawns at lunchtime) Besty and Spinkys (Fish and chips lovely)Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ideal location for exploring the Island.
Ideal location for exploring the Island. The variety of good real ale pubs and eating places were a lot less than when I was first in Newport around 15 or so years ago. We tried several pubs, and a tea room/bakery, but on balance the best were not in Newport. The best for drinks - beer at least and wine - was the Newport Ale House; and for food and drink, the Union Inn Cowes, the Red Lion Freshwater, the Bargeman's Rest Newport, the Castle Inn Newport, and top of the list the Highdown Inn Totland Bay ... but there are more to try when we next go for a week of exploration and hiking!Guest review byDominicUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We really enjoyed our meal at The Red Lion.
We really enjoyed our meal at The Red Lion. The Piano Cafe is worth a mention too for a delicious lunch and friendly service. Freshwater Bay is only a short drive away and the beach is lovely and sandy when the tide goes out a bit. There are lots of paths clearly signposted if you want to go for a walk and explore the countryside a bit more.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Very pretty town with everything within easy access on foot.Peaceful and tranquil despite many visitors. Helpful and pleasant staff in shops and restaurants. An especial thank you to Ivory Unisex hairdressers and manicurist for fitting me in at short notice and doing a really good job as well. We particularly liked the Gossip Cafe which provided excellent food and efficient service. The antiques centre is worth a visit and Scoop ice cream is to be recommended.Guest review byGillianUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Rookley itself is just a small village in the centre of the IOW. There is nothing to particularly recommend it as a place to visit, it's more of a handy location for a caravan park, where we stayedGuest review byKevinUnited Kingdom
