FAQs about hotels in Cologne

From Antiquity to Modernity in Cozy Cologne

Founded by the Romans in 38 BC and idyllically located on the Rhine River, Cologne offers the perfect blend of historical and modern Germany. There’s no place more picturesque to drink a Kolsch beer and eat a schnitzel than on the banks of the River Rhine. Here you’ll find the Altstad, or Old Town, with the impressive Cologne Dom on the skyline.

Visitors to Cologne in November can dance the days away at the Carnival Parade. In December, no trip to Cologne’s magical Christmas markets is complete without a steaming mug of Gluhwein.

The charm extends to other seasons as well, thanks to the medieval wonders of the Cologne Cathedral and the Twelve Romanesque churches. Learn about the city’s history at the Roman-Germanic Museum or take a postmodern approach at Museum Ludwig. Whether historic or culinary, a trip to the Chocolate Museum can complete any tour.

Booking.com offers 260 different accommodations, ranging from apartments to mid-budget hotels to guest houses. So whether you’re stepping out of a plane at the Cologne Bonn Airport or a shop on Hohe Strasse, you will be sure to have a cozy room for those cool European nights.

The cathedral is incredible, it is my favorite, together with Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. We also visited the local zoo - really nice, I loved the clear signs with animals' names at each enclosure. For the city transport, we used the KVB-App and it was very helpful. Train tickets can also be purchased via the app - we used it to get from the airport.

It could be the center location for visiting all the interesting points around Cologne i.e. Bonn, Bruhl. The public transportation is great, but ticket purchase is a problem. In Germany, some ticket machine require PIN for CREDIT card purchase. There is a problem on street: (newly paved) street still with cubic cut ROCKs is hard for walking. Street is not smooth, full with man made lumps, hard to rolling luggage.

Not going to lie, we found it really touristy with dirty bars and restaurants with bland food in the centre. But if you get out of the central area, the venues and food are so much nicer! After a morning tour of the old town, not a lot else to do. Chocolate museum was crowded but took up an hour. We were constantly being warned about pick pockets and there seemed to be a problem with drunks and street people, which didn't make me feel overly safe. Maybe we just went to the wrong places as other people love it, but just not for us.

Cologne is a very clean and easily accessible city.

Cologne is a very clean and easily accessible city. The Cathedral is absolutely outstanding (and free to enter) and was our main reason for visiting, aswell as other points of interest. Train connections are very good, but Cologne us a very walkable. A stroll by the Rive Rhine was lovely, and across the Hohenzollern bridge with all the padlocks on. This leads to the Koln Triangle, which for 5 euros will take you 29 floors up for a 360 view across Cologne. Stunning views and well worth the money. Lots of established restaurants reasonably priced.

What a city... full of interesting things to do... we only had 4 days there but enjoyed it all. The Cathedral is a must. So is a walk on the promenade at night... and a walk over the railway bridge. Of course, another highlight was the visit to the Lindt chocolate factory. We spent a whole afternoon there, learning about how chocolate is made and the history of it. We travelled there by train... and so our mode of transport in the old town was by walking... Very easy city to navigate on foot...

Everyone knows the Cologne Cathedral – it's truly impressive and absolutely a must-visit! But many people don’t know about another place that’s just as essential to see: the Church of St. Ursula. You’ll be amazed — that’s for sure!

I had an excellent stay at Lindner Hotel Cologne City Plaza! The location is perfect for exploring Cologne, and the hotel itself is modern, clean, and stylish. My room was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped, with a luxurious bed and great amenities. The breakfast buffet offered a delicious variety, and the staff was exceptionally friendly and professional. I also enjoyed the wellness facilities – perfect for relaxing after sightseeing. Highly recommended for a comfortable and convenient stay in Cologne!

Perfect location for anyone, who wants to explore the city centre of Cologne. The hotel is located close to the shopping district of the city, where you can get by foot, and to the Heumarkt tram station, which allows you take a tram to go to further places. Cathedral is in 15 minutes. The owner and stuff are good, speak multiple languages (English included) and are open to various cultures.
