Chefchaouene was the 5th town we visited on our road trip...
Chefchaouene was the 5th town we visited on our road trip around Morocco. We had a long journey through the mountains to get there from Meknes and Maulay Idriss, and as Chefchaouene is a small town, but really beautiful town to visit, we decided to rest in the evening and trek out the next day. We stayed for 2 nights. I think the souveniers were quite expensive here, and as I'm not good at haggling, I was put off buying anything. The hadmade rugs were really nice though and also wooden crafts. The waterfall area was very populated and lively. The blueness of the medinas was very beautiful and picturesque. Many photo opportunities, but some you had to pay for the privilege. One thing I experienced from the sellers was that they start off with a very high price - one thing you shouldn't do, is start to haggle at a low price, as this insults them.Guest review byZahraUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Picturesque but very touristy and an excess of street vendors selling many crafts which likely come from China (are not made locally). Extremely hot when we went in July. Yes, it's touristy, but it's so particular with all its blue buildings, in the midst of beautiful nature, that it's a must. Be prepared to climb a few hills! Gorgeous city tucked into a hillside. We enjoyed the drive from Tangier. Fabulous city for photos (all the gorgeous shades of blue!). We took a cooking class at Cafe Clock - fun, intimate and we made tons of breads an pastries. For us 1.5 days was plenty of time to explore and enjoy. Chefchaouene can feel a bit like a Moroccan theme park. By day much of the medina is over taken by shops selling tourist mementos, a lot of shops selling similar items. I found that a little depressing but understood the need to make a livelihood from the beautiful surroundings. I found it worthwhile to get up early and walk the streets before all the merchandise obstructed the view of what we really came to see. Its a beautiful town to get lost in. Local people are generally very friendly & welcoming. Enjoyed getting bread from the traditional bakery. View from kasbah is wonderful. Town is full of cats. Some are healthy and well looked after, but there were a few that looked sick. It broke my heart.
