I loved the town: the history, variety of wonderful foods and cultural experiences, shopping. For us as Australians, prices were very reasonable. Travel around town by Grab (=Uber) is highly recommended as it is cheap, reliable and comfortable - just download the app. Saves energy and strength in the heat. We loved the pop-up street food stalls and also some of the established cafes and restaurants. Highly recommend Lebuh Kimberley in the evening for street food, Lada (Western-Asian fusion), Laksalicious, D'sakra (Indian), Black Kettle (Australian/Western), Urban Daybreak Cafe (very Melbourne). Visit Penang Hill once or twice - lots to see and do. The Upside Down Museum and Wonderfood Museum are fun and interesting. George Town has an old world charm with many attractions. There are many cultural attractions and heritage buildings. If you are a visitor from Europe, Australia, China or the Far East, you would love the island's laid back atmosphere especially in the beach resorts along the northern shores like in Tanjung Bungah, Batu Ferringhi or Teluk Bahang. Top-notched 5-star beach-facing rooms costs USD100++ per night. The island is famous for its street foods which can be found scattered all around Georgetown and the suburbs. I went for a walk around the old town and unfortunately got lost. I asked a local trader to call me a Grab which he did. Very friendly people in Georgetown. Georgetown is a place with numerous delicious foods and exotic museums. I really love the Laksa, Hainan chicken rice, Nasi lemak and Hokkien Noodle on the street, as well as White curry noodle and Nanyang toast...(to be honest, almost everyting is tasty here). BTW, Ghost museum and Wonderfood museum shows more interesting knowledge of the multicultural heritage city. If you like durian, it'll be a wonderland for you because the durian stalls are everywhere in the city. The only thing to complain is the traffic. Friends with children chose the family rooms, which were not quite as glamorous but were perfectly OK. The hotel has a sweet little courtyard, is reasonably close to lots of excellent restaurants and the staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful.
