FAQs about hotels in Catania

The Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

On Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

Catania is easily accessible with Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, served by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guesthouses or hostels with Booking.com.

We were really disappointed of Catania !

We were really disappointed of Catania ! It was really dirty and dilapidated. Nothing is well maintened and public transport are bad. A lot of things are abandoned and seems really old. Just one day here is a sufficient time to visit the city. BUT you need to stay one night in the old city. Because, when the night comes, the city becomes really nice and crowded !

We had 2 stays in Catania, one for 3 nights at the start of our Sicily leg and one more night at the end when flying out. Catania has a grandness in some parts but 2 nights is plenty time to explore the city before moving on to the smaller towns and beautiful coast in Sicily.

Catania is a city of striking contrasts — charming and unmistakably Sicilian, yet undeniably gritty once you wander beyond the polished tourist areas. Still, its soul shines through in the warmth and friendliness of its people. It’s the kind of place you have to experience at least once in your life! A trip to Mount Etna is a must. I wasn’t entirely convinced when booking it, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of my visit. Food lovers will be in heaven here — from street snacks to family-run trattorias, there’s something for every taste. Let Google Maps guide you, and trust the reviews. Getting from the airport is simple: hop on the Alibus (4 euros return), grab a taxi from the many waiting outside, or use Uber. For a day at the beach, take bus Line D from the central bus station near the Duomo — and enjoy the ride as much as the destination.

    Catania no-longer feels like Italy.

Catania no-longer feels like Italy. Why too many migrant men who gather in groups near hotels and shops. It felt very unsafe this time round on my visit. I would not visit Catania again purely because it did not feel safe for a woman travelling alone. Such an unfortunate situation for Italy. Instead of marinara pasta I got masala ?

Great location, right in the center of the city, close to the airport, nearby some great restaurants. Host was very accomodating and helpful, made the check in to check out extremely comfortable. The apartment was definately worth the buck and more, I could see myself enjoying a longer stay, it was a shame that I have already spent most of my vacation in a resort with private beach. Safe, cozy, spacious, well decorated, and very quiet. If anyone is looking to explore Catania and Sicily, this is the place to be.

A good size appartment with kitchen and kitchenwear for basic cooking. We did go the butcher for charcuteries and cooked some pasta as easy dinner, if your legs are tired after a long day. Good size toilet with shower cabinet and a cosy balchony. Very close to Piazza Borsellino for public transportation, good when you plan early trips around Sicily with the base of Catania. Close to city centre with the castle just up the hill and the endless choice of resturants and boutiques.

We loved our stay at this apartment, especially the amazing breakfast pastries! Ivana could not have been more helpful. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short after Easyjet cancelled our flight out of Catania, and Ivana not only refunded part of our booking, but also generously arranged an early morning ride to the airport. We hope we will be able to return to Sicily and if so we will definitely stay at Il Moro again!

We were picked up at Catania airport by hotel staff. Easy drop off at hotel and fortunately staff carried our luggage up the three flights of stairs. Similarly, we were collected 7.30am prompt and dropped off at airport. Overall, cheap and convenient for one overnight (late and early flights). Local facilities (pizzeria and cafe) were very good.
