I was in Spain for the first time and I really liked Benalmadena. Of the beaches, I liked Playa Jose the most. Two sunbeds with umbrellas cost 14 euros. Very friendly beach manager. You can order a drink and food there, which is prepared in a cafe on the embankment. Be sure to visit Benalmadena Pueblo and enjoy the real Spanish atmosphere. On the embankment, I liked the cafe The Sootn Beach with very tasty food. Nearby is a place with homemade ice cream. There is lots to see in the surrounding area.
There is lots to see in the surrounding area. Malaga is fairly close and is worth visiting for a day or two. There is a little area called Benalamadena Pueblo which sits on a hill. It's extremely touristy.
It's extremely touristy. BUT absolutely everything is right at hand—shops, cafés, bars, restaurants, grocery stores, mini markets. Don't expect great food anywhere. However, the prices are really good. (Note: We live in Copenhagen so we thought the prices were amazing but, of course, that opinion might differ based on where you come from.) The beach is a crowded, however it's sandy (mushy/muddy) but really great if you have children who want to sit and play or venture into the water. Benalmadena has grown over the years and like other resorts attracts a predominantly younger type of tourist. However it’s still family friendly and not in the least chavvy. Marina is spectacular. There is everything you can think of to do in Benalmadena late nights partying to quite meals out in nice bars The seafront is nice with a lovely flat promenade to wall for miles along lined with every kind of eatery and bars, 2 very comfy sunbeds with a shade is 14-16 euros a day. The Marina is lovely to walk around with boat trips available, again great restaurants here although slightly more expensive as usual. The cable car is worth a go if you want to see superb view of the Costa Del Sol Coast etc costs about 19 euros each.
