Ararat is a lovely town in itself and has everything you need, town hall, art gallery, many shops, antiques, eating places, gift shops, swimming pool, indoor and out, recreation, park, drives up to Halls Gap and tourist attractions areas. Personally went to Ararat for ghost hunting at Aradale asylum and found myself quite happy with the other facilities, the town is quite cute with not too heavy traffic at most points of the day with good historical sightseeing and nature views!Guest review byJadeAustralia - 10.0

It was a good a good base for two nights (we booked an extra night) because it is easy drive to Halls Gap to walk in the Grampians and also tour around the area. Local interesting history, being the JWard prison and Ararat Lunatic Asylum - both worth a visit. Town centre has ample cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes, and shopping to suit all interests. Easy to walk around the town, restaurants within easy walk. The Alexandra Gardens were beautiful to wander around and with a cafe as well. The Chinese heritage building was worth a visit with kids, they tried gold panning, dressed up and wrote their names in calligraphy while learning a little bit about the history of the town. A few restaurants looked ok in the main street, we chose Khoon Thai and certainly werent disappointed.Guest review byMarg75LAustralia

Whilst they are small they are well maintained and cosy. We arrived late on a very cold Friday night and the heater had been turned on prior ensuring we had a warm unit when we arrived.
